There is a lot of information and education about publishing, marketing, and promoting your book. This is the best stuff I've shifted through, learned and continue learning on the road to the birth of my forthcoming bestseller, "Notes From the MotherShip ~ Naked Invisibles." The birthday or rather month of publication is September 2007. So far, the birth month has changed about 6 times, folks!

Prepare yourself for your book publishing venture by reading this lens and cutting down on your learning curve. The people and stuff I learned along the way are frickin' INVALUABLE! This lens will empower you as well as help make your publishing and marketing efforts more fruitful!

This is the saga of me authoring and publishing my book and all the stuff that goes into it. I have to tell you that I am or rather I was using a timeline for publication offered by a colleague in the National Speakers Association, Doug Smart. I heard Doug speak at our NSAOhio chapter meeting in November of 2006. I was absolutely inspired and empowered by him to own my own publishing company, follow his 'Timeline for Publishing Your Book in Four Months.' Until then, naively, I thought I had to follow suite and try to get a big publishing house to accept me or self-publish through one of the myriad small independent publishing houses. I actually, looked at Doug and said, "You mean I can do this?" It seemed so out of the realm of possibly for me at that time. Doug offers 17 steps to publishing your book in just 4 months. So, I thought why not?!

In January 2007, I started the process. (Actually, the manuscript was started mentally about 40 years ago. So, I'm a little slow). Also, I took the month of November which is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo.com), whereby in the company of thousands worldwide you attempt to write 50,000 words of your novel, manuscript or whatever within that time period. The process is a great experience. Some writers have become authors thru a offering in some years from www.Lulu.com to publish their manuscript free. Anyway, NaNoWriMo is an informative community of writers, authors and resources. Ahh, the resources!
I worked on finding the perfect name for MY publishing company. I thought of naming the enterprise after my children, and then no. I thought of: Ford, Chase & Wunderlick, Ford & Wunderlick (I'll explain the Wundelick in a minute!), Guilford, Chase & Wunderlick, and a host of other names. Now, the Wunderlick name (which I think is sooo cool) came from the news of a woman somewhere and about something and her last name was 'Wunderlick!' How often do you hear a name like that? Exactly! So, it became mine. My publishing company is named "CHASE & WUNDERLICK PUBLISHERS,
http:chasewunderlickpublishers.com.cn. I gave it a China (cn) presence to make it international.

Steps to a Publising your Book

In my previous life I must have been royalty, really big time royalty because in this life, I'm being made to repent. I waited and waited for something magical to happen and guess what nothing happened! To my surprise not yours. This book has taken about 40 years to come to life.
Here are the steps:

(1)Write a Manuscript.Do it during NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month in November whereby you have to write 50,000 words in one month with a worldwide community(www.NaNoWriMo.org) great practice!

(2)Within 4 weeks order a Library of Congress number (www.LoC.gov), order an ISBN number(r.r.bowker), order Bar codes, READ! READ! READ! those websites. Follow the links for publishers, join the newletters for Publishers Weekly, and Writer's Digest.
Inhale and then Exhale.
Do not be overwhelmed...you can handle it!

(3)Within the same first-second month (I moved it to position three so that you don't become too overwhelmed)look up someone to design your book cover and a layout artist.
Check out Dan Poynter's book, "Self-Publishing Manual How to Write, Print and Sell Your Own Book" 15th edition. It's awesome and the resources are invaluable!
Formulate your MARKETING PLAN

(4)Hire an editor to go over and review your manuscript.I hired someone through www.Guru.com. Again, an excellent resource.

(5)Argue with your editor over the title of your book.Wait, forget this step it's personal.
The real number five is make changes and rewrites to your manuscript with your editor. This can take weeks or months.That is how my publication date kept getting pushed up.Naively I thought I could knock out a BESTSELLER in relatively short time.It can be done,BUT not by me.

(6)Have your layout artist do the layout with the finished manuscript.Include any photos, graphs, or whatever required. Determine the file format needed by printers. WAIT, did I mention printers?
Oops...near step 1 get quotes from printers! R.R.Bowker has printing resources.I obtained quotes from Bookmasters, Bang Printers, BooksJustBooks.com and others.Prices vary
Start Marketing by talking up your book!
(7)Read for errors

(8)Proofreader reviews, make adjustments. Do it correctly, too expensive to change once it goes to the printer!

(9)Express mail to printer!
(10)MARKET, MARKET, MARKET your book!
(11)Review the Blueline&return.
(12)3-5weeks CASES of books arrive
(13)Submit for copyright to LOC.gov
(14)List w/Amazon.com,Barnes&Noble.com
