Creating A Special "Summer Place"

A Special Summer Container Garden Place
I decided I wanted to create my special container garden summer place; a nook, a special corner of the porch, garden or yard to find the peace and tranquility I desired and needed so much to get away from the turmoil of the day.
Would you also love to have your own Special Place to get away from things like work, bills, shrinking finances, fussy kids, pressures of life crashing down on you?
If you are like me-I also needed a place to draw me away from my office and work, which I find so difficult to do.
Learn how to easily create and maintain your Special Summer Container Garden Place. There are lots of pictures, tools, instructional videos all from the experts.
I have now included a photo gallery, as well as a my pictures of my own Special Summer Container Garden Place.
Participate by rating, (thumbs up or down) and commenting. I hope you enjoy the material. Also look for additional needed information before leaving.
I hope this helps as summer begins to sizzle.
I could tell you that I usually work all the time, and my dad is always telling me to "Stop and Smell the Roses." So, that's the main reason I even thought to create my Special Summer Place. Thanks dad I really love it, and it does get me to take some much needed breaks..
(Note: I just lost my dad, July 6th 2010. I miss him terribly. Every time I take a break or go out on this Special Summer Place I think about him. This Deck Container Garden is in honor my my dad, and his saying of: " Don't Forget To Stop and Smell the Roses.")

How I Created My Special Summer Container Place?
So far I have filled my Container Garden with different Impatients and they are a Profusion of lovliness.
I decided to create my Special Summer Place with a Container Garden. Container Gardens can be lovely and are pretty easy to make. I already had lots of containers from the last few years of buying shade loving plants for my tree surrounded deck. So, I of course began to look for shade loving plants, and found some real beauties, to make my deck an inviting Special Summer Place.
I love the New Zealand Impatience's. I got them in hot reds, pinks and burgundies. That will also help me to attract hummingbirds, which of course I want to have plenty of.
Then I was able to find some double impatience's, in the same types of colors for the same reasons. You are able to put any plants in containers. I will try to grow a couple of tomato plants in the same area, but of course that will depend on if I am able to find enough sun for them or not. To make that easier I put both my large tomato plant containers on plant caddies with castors or rollers, so I will be able to move them around in the afternoon trying to follow the sun.
These plant caddies are fantastic for large containers, as us girls love to change things around occasionally; Right girls?
I also got a new hummingbird feeder, as I want to leave my original one where it is, which is outside my dining room window. I don't want to confuse the hummingbirds already coming there.
I have tried different arrangements on my deck for my Special Summer Place container garden. Being a woman, it is inclined to change occasionally.
I have a table top water fountain that I will put there, As a matter of fact I just might have two.

I just adore watching those fiesty little hummingbirds
This is a Very Special Hummingbird Video
This video is absolutely fantastic. It isn't mine, as I don't have this many hummingbirds, but I know you will enjoy watching it as I love it. Watch them perch on his fingers to feed---WOW!!
My experience is a little different:
I usually make my Smoothies in the morning, and have some waiting for me for my breaks or my lunch, then go out on my deck to enjoy the flowers, listen to the wind chimes (if there's a breeze) and watch the frenzy of those very busy hummingbirds. I have only 1, 2 or 3 at a time so far. Nothing like in this video. But, I love enjoying them - no matter how many or few there are.
I just love watching hummingbirds!!!
Enjoy!!!

The choice is yours.

In this video you will learn about Sun and Shade requirements and also watering and plant nutrition-or fertilizer.
Adding Chairs and Decorating
This is a personal place of refuge. So, be sure to add what you enjoy.
I also got a couple of chairs, for myself, and if I want to invite a special guest or so. I am already picturing having company to share my special space with me and serving them cool, delicious and scrumptious berry or chocolate cherry smoothies. The peaceful inviting pictures are already dancing in my head.
You may decorate it with anything you like and enjoy. There are so many decorations just made for gardens, but, it could be something from a flea market or yard sale or something you already have too. Just suit yourself, Right now I think I will add a wind chime or two.
I love water decorations and fountains, notice the home made water garden.
Your Special Summer Place Can be Anywhere You Choose
Just don't forget about Windchimes and Water Fountains
Special Summer place Container Gardens can be anywhere you choose. Do you have a little or large patio, a secluded part of your yard, or a porch, you would love to make special? Some even have a room in the back with lots of windows that could be a sun room-that could be made into a Special Summer Place container garden. There are so many spaces you could turn into your Special Summer Place.
I love the tinkling sound of wind chimes. I also love the tranquilizing of running water, so I will have both of my favorites-Wind Chimes and Water Fountains. You be sure to add what tickles you too.
Mine also includes a spot just right for me to curl up with a book, so it can be for me alone or I am able to share it. We do have a choice.
I plan on doing both-depending on just how I feel..
Thriller-Filler and Spiller
No this is not just jabber, it is all about designing a Plant Container
I must go back and do this!!!

Plant Caddies or Dollies with Rollers
All of these are 5 Star
I listed different ones -- also in different sizes.
I just got some of these for my very heavy tomato containers to move around to chase the sun, (I have quite a bit of shade, and tomatoes need lots of sun.) and my deck is not new or even. As it is not level, I notice that mine work very well.

Beautiful peaceful floating cloud of cool mist - heaven!
Great product for the price!
awesome mist
Although everyone said it is awesome or beautiful, at lease one or 2 said the instructions are terrible, so I am sure they are. They added to be patient, because it was worth it.
One explained how to do it, be sure to read the reviews.
Some of the other ways my dad has influenced me.
I'm not saying that we always got along perfectly, as I was one to say what I think, but, he did his best to give me good values, instill a real love for our heavenly father, and guide me appropriately.
Quite a bit of my work involves what he taught me.
I just want people to know how he has impacted my life, and that he has left a mark on it.
Thanks Dad- I love you
I loved this project - I hope you did too

- Your impatiens are gorgeous, Carmel! The entire deck with the flowers is just beautiful! We have just decorated our little deck in our temporary home with a grill and some chairs. I must get some containers and some plants to add out there!

- I enjoy my "deck garden", too! Thank you for all these super ideas! I am now inspired to get out there tomorrow and work on it some more. I do have a couple of hummingbird feeders and bird feeders out there, and wind chimes, too. This year we even have a family of bluebirds! We are thrilled!

- Hi Carmel
I found it interesting about the peat moss. How it holds water and should be also in the pot along with the soil. Also the need to use some sort of fertillizer, a fish solution or another kind so as to have healthy looking plants. I never thought about it how the soil is so heavy and that using white foam stuff could be used on the bottom of the pot so as not to have so much weight to the container. Good tips! Joan
