Cherie's Art & ACEOs

I learned about ACEOs a couple of years ago, while I was on eBay, selling my arts and crafts. I joined a group called 'Michigan Buyers & Sellers' and met a girl who was in an art group there at the bay and she invited me to join that art group. To this day I'm so glad I did and am so grateful to Darlene! Her Shop At Etsy

What an experience it's been too!. It's fun chatting with such varied artists, people from all over the world really...getting to see their fabulous art and even being able to purchase their art in this wonderfully collectible size.

Baseball trading cards are ACEOs, the same size, but since they are generally for 'trading' they are considered as ATCs, or 'ART TRADING CARDS'.

There were a number of acronyms that I had to learn at the beginning of my ACEO journey at eBay, and I used to laugh at new people just joining the group because they sounded just like me, 'What do all these acronyms stand for?'

ACEO = Art Cards, Editions and Originals
ATC = Art Trading Cards
SRA = Self Representing Artist
OOAK = One Of A Kind
CAAT = Complimentary Art And Things (Artist Group)
A&AE = ACEO & ATC Enthusiasts
DAWG = Designing Artists Women's Group
(there are so many more!)

I don't know if the groups at eBay may be discontinued, that's the rumor, but we have another place to go to at Ning and it's led by our wonderful and fantastic artist, person and friend, Jillian Crider. She's extraordinarily talented, knowledgable and kind! She's been such an incredible inspiration and a fountain of knowledge and has a true passion for ACEO art and for artists learning, creating and promoting all they can.

With all the most recent changes at eBay, (fees increasing, feedback format changes, payment rules), just so many things changing, a lot of artists have moved on to Etsy, the HANDMADE site.

I had been there for a while, sold a couple of handmade items too, and I really like Etsy. It has a nice set-up, very stylish. Showing the handmade items, some of them are so gorgeous, enticing too! I like that you can see what has just been listed too, and you can choose your favorite color and search for handmade items that way. What a variety too! Everything from hats to digital art files! Back to ACEOS!!

You can create ACEOs by using any type of support you desire, cardstock, watercolor paper, fabric, altered art, mosaic paper strips, even clay. As long as they are 2.5" x 3.5", that is the RULE! If it's NOT that size, it is NOT an ACEO.

You can even purchase 'backgrounds' for ACEOs which are on 8.5" x 11" size sheets of DIGITAL ART files that you purchase and recieve through the email system. Then save it to your computer, flash drive or cd and print out and use as many times as you'd like! I've got a few 'clip art' and 'collage' sheets and ACEO digital art files at my Etsy shop, for people who like to create 'altered art' these are handy!

Some of the most popular subjects that people like to create are mermaids, animals...cats, dogs, mice, hamsters, horses, and flowers, landscapes, beach scenes, whimsical and abstract art and of course anything SEASONAL will always be great sellers. Santa, snowmen and Christmas trees are very popular right now!
