AP Government is a class taken by many seniors to get college government credits. Most colleges will give students credits based on their score, with a minimum of a 3 out of 5 to receive credit. The class of AP government has two related tests, AP comparative government and politics and AP US government and politics.

The AP US Government and Politics test covers 6 areas; Institutions of national government (35-45% of the test),Political beliefs and behaviors (10-20%), Organizations for public influence (10-20%), Civil rights and civil liberties (5-15%), Constitutional basis for federal government (5-15%), and Public policy (5-15%).

The AP Comparative Government and Politics test covers 6 areas; Political Institutions (35%), Sovereignty, Authority, and Power (20%), Citizens, Society, and the State (15%), Political and Economic Change (15%), Public Policy (10%), and Introduction to Comparative Politics (5%)

Scoring 

In 2007, 160,978 students took the US Government exam from 6,306 schools.
The average score was a 2.67. 6% of students got a 5 on the test.

In 2007, 13,358 students took the Comparative Government exam from 996 schools.
The average score was a 2.92. 16.4% of students got a 5.

The Comparative government test is considered easier, but it is not offered as a class at many schools.
