- We do still use signs once in a while. When she's in her gymnastics class I can sign "try" or "pay attention" or "be careful" without embarrassing her haha. Other signs we use often are yes, no, bathroom, and I love you. (Lexi turns 11 this summer!)

- My daughter was about three when I showed her the few signs I knew. (That's when we started home schooling.) She learned other signs along the way to adulthood through educational television programs. While she was in high school (still home schooled), she took four semesters of ASL. After MY teaching HER from K-12, she began to teach ME - American Sign Language. Now we are both interpreters. Teaching your kids to sign can be so rewarding! :)

- I wish I had known about baby signing when my kids were born, Just thinking how frustrated they must get when they can't communicate their needs. It is amazing how much they can say with signing. I enjoyed watching Marley Maitlin on Celebrity Apprentice. She has definitely been a role model for learning to sign.

- I taught all 3 of my kids sign language starting at around 5 months old. I started learning sign language at church around 7 years old and have always been interested in it. I love the Signing Time series. It's entertaining and very educational. I learned new signs right along with my babies by watching the videos with them. *~blessed~*

- Awesome lens! When I taught autistic children I used some signs with them. One child imitated every sign I made, and one of my favorite moments was when we went on a field trip and the assistants went into Burger King to get food for the kids. He tapped me on the osulder and made the sign for "eat".

- My little guy was in an early intervention program because he had muscular torticollis. While in the program they taught them how to do a few signs, which he didn't need since he was completely verbal. It was funny, though, because he quickly figured out he could stuff his mouth full of food and "sign" the word for "more". lol!!! Great lens! Blessed by an Angel.

- A beautiful thing you did. My daughter was born with complications and suffered hearing loss from birth to age 6. Her hearing was miraculously restored at age 6 but we did some signing. Mostly she lip read, so well in fact that not I or the doctor knew she wasn't hearing until she was 3yrs old. Now the tables are turned, I can hear fine but my injury messed up my vocals and so I sign when my voice goes out. Always looking to learn more! What a wonderful idea for any child to know. This has encouraged me to go back and refresh my child's sign vocabulary.

- Terrific lens. Very informative. My baby's first sign was "more" but he's two now and he signs the entire alphabet, all his colors, his numbers 1 - 10, fruits, veggies, animals and people. He's really good. I've been working with him since he was 6 months old. It really works. Lens rolling this to:

- Oh me! I love this lens. I have always been fascinated with sign language, too! I used to work with Adult Developmentally Disabled and we taught them very basic signs which made communicating much more enjoyable. I catch myself wanting to sign to get people's attention and then realize that they wouldn't understand. It is so beautiful and so is this lens.

- Great lens, Christene. My grandmother who lived with our family was deaf. She read lips pretty well, however, and the only sign language that was used was what we make up to get our point across, before giving up and writing her a note. How much simpler it would have been if we all had known sign language. I tried taking some classes later in life, but unfortunately didn't keep up with it. I've often thought of how useful it would be for divers, loud concerts and restaurants. Thanks for your promotion of teaching it to babies! 5 stars!

this is a bit of a shock to me.Although I've been deaf for 36 years now, have only ever met one deaf person before.I would like it if you could contact me as I have more to say but this is not the right place.Congratulations on a well presnted, relevant lens.Wish you luck.

- Excellent work Christene. Certainly a Squid Angel Blessing worthy lens! My oldest, Cassandra, who just turned 18, is finishing her 2-year degree in a few months. She's been accepted into Washington State University for their education program and will be getting her teaching credentials through WSU starting this fall. Cassandra wants to work with the deaf and mute and has been taking sign language classes regularly. Funny thing is she has been teaching my youngest, Carly, 2 years old, sign language. They are starting to communicated via sign. I better get on the ball on this one! lol

- Christene, your beautiful lens really touched my heart!
I started home-schooling my daughter at age 3, showing her the few signs I knew. She just couldn't get enough! Sesame Street signing fascinated her. We learned more from a PBS series, "Say It With Sign." Wherever she could learn more, she did. During high school she took four semesters of ASL college classes.
After graduation, she continued her education with an ASL Bible class. She became a sign language instructor herself, and is currently working as a professional interpreter for deaf college students.
Coming full circle, my precious daughter (whom I home-schooled for 12 years) became MY teacher. She taught me to sign, and I am eternally grateful to her for the gift of such a beautiful language. I now have the privilege of teaching others & serving as an ASL interpreter. Together we now share in distributing a brand-new Bible on DVD in ASL free to all.
Keep up the good work, Christene! You will reap unimagined blessings!

- Dear Christine, What a wonderful gift you have shared with your daughter! I am a hearing person but have always taken a great interest in languages. I started learning ASL 1 1/2 years ago. I am currently passing this great gift on to a small class of my own. There is a great Internet Site called "ASL-Pro". This is set up as an ASL dictionary where you will find a Baby-words ASL Dictionary too. You might want to add this to your lens. Just a suggestion. I'm giving you 5 stars. (Your daughter is adorable!)
