Collecting Auto Brochures

Car buffs, restorers, collectors are doing it.

There are numerous reasons why people would seek a vintage car or truck brochure. Perhaps they have a classic car and want as much of the history of their car as possible. Perhaps you are restoring a classic car and want pictures or specifications or dimensions of the vehicle. Perhaps you just have a soft spot in your heart and your memory for a car you had at one point in your life and want to go on a nostalgia trip. Of course there are those who buy and sell brochures for a particular vehicle year or make or model.

I got involved thru my father who restored a handful of classic trucks in his day and started a collection of vintage auto literature. He made the rounds to swap meets and car shows buying and selling. He made the trip to Hershey for 6 or 7 years.
I had just started selling Chevrolets for a living and always saved him the current brochures especially for Corvette and Camaro.

When he passed away, I was not interested in his whole collection just in the Chevrolet stuff. I later regretted that decision. His Chevrolet collection sat stashed away for a number of years.

I began posting the collection on Ebay a little at a time. The excitement of some of the auctions became addictive. My father's collection was going one or two pieces at a time all over the world - to Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia as well as literally all 50 states.

I now buy and sell brochures, mostly online, mostly thru Ebay although I have picked up a few deals thru my other contacts. I have not been able to turn it into the type of supplemental income that I might have hoped but I am still very much "into it" and still hope that I can develop it into a full fledge business someday.
