One of the major attractions of Tucson is the Sabino Canyon that is situated in the Santa Catalina Mountains. Sabino Canyon is a sought after recreation area for residents and visitors of Southern Arizona. It offers a place to trek, stroll, hike or ride. Wildlife in the canyon includes mountain lions, skunks, deer, javelina, tortoises and rattlesnakes. It is believed that the Sabino canyon was first occupied by the Hohokam Native Americans. Did you know that a paved road runs 3.8 miles into the canyon, crossing 9 stone bridges over Sabino Creek? It starts at an altitude of 2,800 feet and rises to 3,300 feet at its end. Winding through the canyon, on can have glorious views of the creek, the riparian vegetation, splendorous Saguaros on the canyon walls, and towering rock formations.
