All About A Residential Wind Turbine
Having a residential wind turbine is a wonderful way to save on your energy bill, conserve energy and have a continuous source of virtually free power for your home. We are just beginning to understand the power of wind and harnessing it for use in our homes. The more we learn about it the more amazing it seems to be. Wind is an energy source that we have always had and always will have. Although we are still learning how to best utilize this system, and it still has some dependence on the local utility, it is fast becoming a popular method for reducing home energy costs.

How A Residential Wind Turbine Works
A wind turbine system is connected to your home to provide an electrical source that is converted into power that you use in your home. Much like using solar power for your electrical needs, a wind turbine system works in conjunction with your utility company in providing your home with the necessary power. When the wind velocity falls below about 7mph, it does not produce power. During those times, the power you need is provided by your utility company. When the wind picks up to above 7mph, the turbine begins producing power for your home and the amount of electricity you use from the utility company decreases. If your turbine provides more electrical power for your home than you need, that excess energy is sold back to the utility. The whole system runs automatically and does not require batteries.

How Do I Know A Residential Wind Turbine Is Right For Me?
Residential wind turbines can be pretty large. They are turbines mounted atop a tall pole and are not recommended for more urban areas with less space. Generally, at least an acre is a good size of land to have a viable residential wind turbine. Geographically a wind turbine can be installed anywhere in the United States, but to be most cost effective, the windiness of the area should be considered. Naturally, if you live in an area with more sustained winds, the device will be a cost effective option for you. Wind is free, which means that the cost to produce power via wind turbines is stable. As an advantage over solar panels, wind can blow day or night and no matter the weather. Therefore, you are not reliant on bright sunny days to produce more electricity for your home.
Are Residential Wind Turbines Environmentally Friendly
The plain and simple answer to this is yes. Wind turbines produce no pollutants. They are not noisy, as some people assume. The noise from a wind turbine is roughly compared to being slightly less than an average appliance, such as a washing machine. Using a wind turbine to power your home is not only cost effective and efficient, but since you are using less energy from your utility company, you are reducing the pollutants that the utility company produces. Therefore, when you choose to install a wind turbine system for your home, you are, in effect, reducing the air pollutants and greenhouse gasses that your utility company is putting out.
