I'm In Love With Andy Warhol
This lens is all about Andy.. his creative genius. I will post more info as I read the book! Ha ha! From what I have read so far he was a very kind person who always recognized value in people.
Andy Warhol always said,
"Thank you"... constantly.
I LOVE that!
Wish you were here Andy! Thank you for all that you left us with; your wit, inspiration for art; your diary.. wow; the notion that inspiration can be found in the smallest of things.
THANK YOU!

Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art. Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art.

Reasons to love Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol at a Glance
:For the song by David Bowie, see Andy Warhol (song).
Andrew Warhola (August 6, 1928 ? February 22, 1987), more commonly known as Andy Warhol, was an American painter, printmaker, and filmmaker who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. After a successful career as a commercial illustrator, Warhol became famous worldwide for his work as a painter, avant-garde filmmaker, record producer, author, and public figure known for his membership in wildly diverse social circles that included bohemian street people, distinguished intellectuals, Hollywood celebrities and wealthy aristocrats.
Warhol has been the subject of numerous retrospective exhibitions, books, and feature and documentary films. He coined the widely used expression "15 minutes of fame." In his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, The Andy Warhol Museum exists in memory of his life and artwork.
The highest price ever paid for a Warhol painting is $100 million for a 1963 canvas titled Eight Elvises. The private transaction was reported in an article in The Economist, which described Warhol as the "bellwether of the art market." $100 million is a benchmark price that only Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso, Gustav Klimt and Willem De Kooning have achieved.http://www.economist.com/specialreports/displaystory.cfm?story_id=14941229
Andy Warhol Biography By Pauline Go

A multifaceted personality, Andrew Warhola, popularly called Andy Warhol, began his career as an advertisement illustrator after completing a Bachelors' Degree in Fine Arts from Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. Born in August 6, 1928 in Pittsburg to parents of Slovakian origin, Andy Warhol suffered from learning disability during his childhood. At the tender age of eight he suffered from the deadly disease of chorea that affected his nervous system and also affected his skin, an ailment that bothered him for the rest of his life. In spite of these impediments, Andy fared well in his academics and later in his career that spanned from an artist, to an author and also as a filmmaker.
Andy's career as a commercial artist working in New York was a successful one but his quest for attaining popularity for his skill as an artist he drifted into taking up painting. The exhibitions he showed them up with gained immense attraction by art lovers. He intended to popularize paintings and introduced a culture of pop painting. Andy later set up the 'Factory' where he built a conglomerate of artists and illustrators who could work for him to produce more of his paintings. The Factory became a popular name and was frequented by several persons of eminence. Andy went to the extent of making screen prints of paintings. That however received severe criticism from several quarters.
His creativity ran boisterous when he began to tread into a pervert domain, when he started making pornographic films and erotic paintings. Some of these like such as Blow Job, Lonesome Cowboy and Chelsea Girls are considered as underground classics. While Factory provided him with a platform to elevate it also brought him close to his death. He was shot at by Valerie Solanis, an associate of his, who turned antagonist over a trivial issue. This gunshot was near serious. It was miraculous that Andy survived. He underwent prolonged surgical treatment and made a come back but the effect of this dreadful act left an adverse effect both on his life and creativity.
Andy Warhol died of a massive heart attack in 1987 on February 22 while undergoing a normal gall bladder operation. His art and the philosophy of his expression has left behind a plethora of creative designs both famous and infamous, but un-ignorable nonetheless.
Display of his woks at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania stands testimony of the creative excellence of this renowned public figure of recent times.

Andy Warhol Fun
Who is Andy Warhol and What Were the Best Warhol Paintings? By Tom Gurney
After Marilyn Monroe's death Andy Warhol produced several series of paintings of her, based on the same original photo. Warhol enjoyed her connection between death and celebrity cult and so chose her as a Warhol Star. Warhol tried out many varieties of color combinations.
Campbell's Soup brand was also linked closely to Warhol after his series of paintings which spanned much of Warhol's career, as he commonly came back to the Soup Can image as a tool for creativity. These heavily branded themes brought in young people and gave importance and relevance to the pop art movement.
Warhol's shoes is a well-known subject from his career which gained prominence very early on, before his art style was even to gain momentum. Warhol's professional illustrations along this theme helped him to progress his career. The combination of brightly coloured shoes against dark background proved hugely popular. The success of Warhol as an illustrator helped him to progress into his other art mediums which eventually led to the formation of the Pop Art movement, and his flurry into Film and TV.
After a near fatal shooting Andy Warhol featured the subject of death, and related items to that, quite commonly in his art, whereas previously he had not. The Guns series is perhaps the most popular of these and is regularly discussed by Warhol fans even today. The repetition style of Warhol was used with this series to underline the danger and threat of guns in American society at that time.
Warhol's bold style is shown best in his Cow wallpaper series which remains a popular choice with Warhol Art lovers around the world. Psychedelic yellow combined with pinks to dazzle art lovers and attract young followers towards the Pop Art movement, of which Warhol was one of the figureheads. The cow photo came from an agricultural print which later was repeated into real wallpaper by obsessed Warhol.
The full length of Warhol's career is littered with interesting self-portraits which help art fans to see into Warhol's mind and discover how he saw himself. Some were also less than happy portrayals and showed a typical artist at odds with himself, so common amongst many of the greatest artists.

- I don't know. I think he was more about a style rather than real art. After all, much of his work was basically multicoloration of allready made prints. I recently watched a movie called "The Factory Girl." Guy Pierce portrayed Andy and it concerned one of his dear friends of the time, a beautiful socialite from a rich family, I forget her name. He made her his first "Superstar" and then dropped her like a bad habit later on in their weird relationship. I just think he was a little too eccentric and not necessarily in a good entertaining way.

Andy Warhol' Paintings - Why Are They So Famous? By David Johansen Auby

Why has Andy Warhol's paintings and art become so famous? The answer might lie in the artist's philosophy regarding art. Andy Warhol believed that art could and should be mass produced and that art could be made out of everyday objects. This was a radical new idea in the art world; because art was seen as something elevated and not connected to the everyday life of people.
Andy Warhol's mission was to connect the normal world that surrounds us with the art world. Therefore he used everyday objects like the Campbell's soup can and Coca Cola boxes to make his art statement. A lot of people who was not interested in art before became fascinated and in this way Andy Warhol created a whole new art audience. Even today, people who are not normally interested in art appreciate Warhol's many creative paintings and art projects.
In addition Andy Warhol's art was not only something for the wealthy art collector. Because Andy Warhol's many paintings were mass produced the prices for an original dropped dramatically and a lot of people with normal incomes could afford an Andy Warhol original. Later, many of Andy Warhol's famous paintings have been featured on everything from bags to T-shirts - just the way Andy Warhol wanted.
It seems that Andy Warhol struck a chord among people. His motives have become iconic and his art is still exhibited throughout the world. But Andy Warhol was never interested in becoming famous just for the sake of it. His art was always radical and he never tried to please the audience. Ironically, maybe that is the reason he has become so popular?
David Johansen Auby runs the Warhol Auctions website where you, among other things, can find Andy Warhol famous paintings http://www.warholauctions.net/Store/andy_warhol_paintings and Andy Warhol bags http://www.warholauctions.net/Store/andy_warhol_bags

- Out of Warhol's Inner Circle Into the Void
By A. O. SCOTT
Published: December 14, 2007
Twenty years after his death, Andy Warhol continues to exert a powerful, almost queasy fascination, not only because of his work - which has proven more durable and interesting than it may have seemed before - but also because of the enigma of his personality. He has become a recurrent figure in movies, documentary and otherwise, where he is often inscrutable and vaguely sinister, a watchful predator in relation to the young people who surrounded him in the 1960s Factory days.
The idea of Warhol as a corrupter and destroyer of innocence was fairly overt in George Hickenlooper's "Factory Girl," which starred Sienna Miller as Edie Sedgwick, a well-born New Englander who appeared in some of Warhol's films. The notion is implicit in "A Walk Into the Sea," Esther B. Robinson's documentary about Danny Williams, a former Harvard student who was also part of the Factory...
