Skin Care Products
When you're talking about skin care products, it's important to know what they area, what's in them, and are you using the right skin care products for your skin type?
Many people choose a skin care product for the wrong skin type!
Is your skin dry or dehydrated? There's a difference! One is a skin type, while the other is a skin condition. The difference is that dry skin lacks oil, and dehydrated skin lacks water. That means that even normal skin can be dehydrated.
Understanding your skin type is the first step in choosing the right skin care products for your skin. After you know your skin type, you can then face the conditions of your skin you'd like to correct.
Skin type is based on tone, texture and pore size. If you aren't sure what your skin type is, get a skin care analysis done. Visit a spa and have an esthetician look at your skin, or next time you go to the dermatologist, ask the doctor what your skin type is.
Using the right "skin care products" for your skin type is a step towards better skin care!
And lastly, if you're using a jar of skin care product, use a clean spatula to get the product out so that it doesn't get contaminated each time you use it!

Cleansers and Skin Care Products

When you're looking at cleansers, there are different types to look at.
There are foaming cleansers, cleansing milks, and gel type cleansers.
Cleansers work by breaking up the surface tension on the skin, and help to remove dirt and debris.
Cleansing milks are emollient and good for dry or mature skin. They do not foam, and are gentle and creamy.
Foaming cleansers lather and foam. Many people associate foaming of a cleanser to clean your skin, but cleansers don't have to foam to clean.
Gels are a liquid, gel type cleanser and include most of the other liquid cleansers you see. You pump it out into your hand, or squeeze it from a bottle.
Toners help remove the cleanser residual from your skin. Some claim to tighten and tone, while others use it to balance the pH of the skin after cleansing. Toner is not needed, though many choose to use it. It's personal preference.
Exfoliation is Key
Physical or mechanical exfoliants you move around your skin to help remove the dead skin. A scrub is grainy with small particles, which slough off the top layer of skin. A gommage is a product you places on the skin, and when it dries, you roll it of the skin. It can also be referred to as vegetal.
Chemical exfoliants work by dissolving or penetrating the top layer of skin to help remove it. Enzymes are an example of a chemical exfoliant.

Facial Masks and Skin Care Products
You choose a mask based on skin type, and the condition you'd like to help. You can apply different masks in different areas of your face at the same time, if you have a combination situation. If you find you'd like to use a clay mask on your nose and T-Zone area, but it may be too drying for your cheeks, choose another mask for that area.
You can apply a mask with your hands or a brush. Leave the mask on from 10 to 20 minutes.

Moisturizers and Skin Care Products
A person with an oily skin type will want to choose a non-comedogenic and oil-free product so it's non-clogging.
Creams and lotions are similar, but still are a little different. Creams are heavier then lotions. Creams have more oil than water, where as lotions have more water than oil.
