Planting a Raised Vegetable Garden

Ranked #25,424 in Education, #486,572 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund

I am making this page about gardening because gardening is my passion. Being outside, planning, implementing ideas, anticipating the results, watching the results; there is no greater feeling. I want to share my passion with others. In the process hopefully I'll learn something along the way.

An overview

I'm going to show you how to plant a raised vegetable garden that is fun and easy to maintain. There is nothing like the taste of your own home grown vegetables.

Materials you'll need

I started with a 3'X3' Grow Bed and Pop-up Net purchased from Gardners Supply Company. (assembly required). you'll also need a shovel or spade. I lined my bed with a weed control frabric. A good organic soil for vegetables, compost, aged manure and mulch. Vegetable plants or seeds.

Step 1:

Choose a sunny spot for the garden. You might need to remove exsisting grass or rocks from the area to make it level.Assemble the Grow Bed and line it with the weed control fabric.

Step 2:

Prepare the soil. On top of the weed control fabric,mIx the Vegetable Garden soil and organic matter (such as compost, peat moss or aged manure). Follow directions on bags for the porper ratio of these products.

Step 3:

Before planting your vegetable plants arrange them in the raised garden bed while still in their pots before digging any holes. This gives you an idea of what your garden will look like. If using seeds follow the directions on the seed packets. Once planted, water thorouly. Continue watering once a week depending on the amount of rainfall you receive in your area.

From you instructions, I think I can grow my own vegetable garden. I am going to give it a good try.

Thanks for your detailed instructions. The video was an added bonus.
