Your Academic Robes and How They Relate to Relationships
When you first ended the New World Magic School for Wizards, you got new academic robes as you have progressed from one year on to the next; you have gotten new robes each year. Although some have chosen to magically change their color of favorite robes, most students just get new robes each year. We do ask, however, that you never wear robes that are colored for a previous year. You are only allowed to date wizards who are either one year ahead of one year behind you in your studies. By adhering to these rules, we have prevented students from being harmed by overenthusiastic upper class men who are trying to impress a younger or less skilled student wizard.
We use our academic robes to identify who we are and what level of skill we have. By pretending to be a student of a lower level you are taking the chance of harming another student with impression. What I mean by this, is that by trying to impress a younger or less experienced student, as you know, we do not place students based on age, but on experience and knowledge, you could be exposing them to a spell or potion that they have not been prepared for.
While it is understood that when so many students are placed in such confined quarters as our school, romance can and will happen, we are trying to limit the damage that could be done by an advanced student trying to impress a less advanced student. Our academic robes help to identify not only us as wizards, but also how knowledgeable we are as well. We do not insist upon zero relations between students, nor do we frown upon it. It is encouraged to have at least one wizard relationship in your lifetime and preferred that you do marry into a wizard family.
While we recognize the need to marry and have children outside of the wizard world, we also know that to help continue the wizard lines, we will also need to have full wizard families continue on the traditions in full wizard families. Not to mention the fact that not only are wizard talents only inherited, either you have them or you don't, but we need to try to keep mortals from discovering what it is that wizards still do in this world. While most mortals believe that wizards are only back in the time of Merlin, there are some mortals that are intuitive to our presence in the mortal world. Those are the mortals who have wizard blood and possible wizard talents, but have never had formal training, as you are getting now.
We ask that you do not wear your academic robes out in the mortal world. While it will not identify you as a wizard in the mortal world, it will definitely look strange and it will call attention to yourself, not to mention the possibility that your robes could get damaged. You first priority with your robes is to be sure that they do not get damaged, as they could save your life.
