Acne Scar Removal Treatment - Save Money with This Treatment

How many acne scar removal treatment techniques are there? And why do you get acne scars to begin with?

Well, let's answer the second question first - why does acne scar? Acne actually injures the skin tissue. Your body reacts to it as it would any injury, by sending white cells and various inflammatory molecules to the site of the injury to repair the damage and fight infection. Unfortunately, all too often these repairs are rather messy. We refer to these messy repairs as "scars."

Some people form keltoids - or hypertrophic scars. There are raised areas caused by increased growth around the damaged tissue. This type of scarring typically runs in families.

Acne Scar Removal Treatment - Using Injections?

However, most people searching for acne scar removal treatment have scars that are caused by a loss of tissue. The scars, sometimes called "pock marks," look somewhat like chicken pox scars, or like they were made by an ice pick. There are several treatments for this type of scarring.

There are a couple of injection treatments you can get. One type is a collagen injection. This causes the skin to plump up around the scar. It doesn't work well on ice pick scars, and you need to have injections every 3 to 6 months with a charge for each injection. Another type of injection is autologous fat transfer, which involves taking some fat from one part of your body and injecting it into the scarred area. It also raises the skin around the scar. The fat is usually reabosorbed within 6 to 18 months, so this method, must be repeated as well.

Other Common Acne Scar Removal Treatment

Other common methods of acne scar removal treatment include dermabrasion and micro-dermabrasion. Dermabrasion is considered to be an effective treatment for many types of acne scars, but in some cases can make the scarring more apparent. A brush is used to remove the surface skin. It requires the use of a local anesthetic. Micro-demabrasion uses a similar technique, but removes less tissue, usually requires multiple procedures, and may or may not significantly reduce scars.

Laser treatments are available and can be effective, but they will often leave the skin looking red for months following the treatment.

Is Surgery Affordable?

In some cases, skin surgery may be used to as an acne scar removal treatment. Ice pick scarring can be treated this way, with a "punch" removal of each individual scar. Skin grafting may be required to fill the holes created by these excisions.

All of these treatments require a visit to a dermatologist or other medical professional. You know what that means: first you need to find someone, then you have to wait weeks or months to get in for a consultation, and wait more weeks or months before you can actually get treatment. And in many of these cases, you'll need more than one treatment. It can take a long time and be very costly.
