Action Man Vehicles

Ranked #6,791 in Hobbies, Games & Toys, #85,595 overall

Action Man Vehicles from 1993 onwards

Action Man first appeared in the UK in the 1960s and was a perennial favourite for two decades until production ceased in the 1980s. After almost ten years in the wilderness, the 12 inch figure arrived back in the UK, clearly having worked out and with a whole new range of modern accessories.

There are so many vehicles available for the modern Action Man that it's difficult to know where to begin.

I've decided that this lens will be for 'cars' of one kind or another, including jeeps and trucks. The motorbikes and all the other types of vehicles will be on another lens.

I have a ludicrous number of vehicles but I have an even more ludicrous number of Action Men to go with them. I do feel I should point out that the cars etc take up a huge amount of space, they are, after all, 1:6 scale, like the man himself. So if you are considering starting a collection, you might want to dedicate a room to it.

If you do, you'll find a nice range of curtains and duvet sets available with Action Man scenes on them. I expect those to become sought after in the future as well. When you consider how highly prized some of the vintage Action Men have become, with many fetching hundreds of pounds as the nostalgia grows, and that the earliest of the modern Action Men are already fifteen years old, now is the time to begin a collection, while prices are still reasonable.

Parents - please be aware that some of these vehicles have quite a strong firing action and can really sting your leg in a direct hit.

I will be adding more information to all the Action Man lenses as time goes on. I don't have absolutely all the models but should have enough to help with identification etc.

Action Man Super Turbo Car

Action Man Super Turbo Car

Looking suspiciously like souped-up a VW Beetle, the Super Turbo Car dates from 2000.

It is featured in Action Man cartoon episodes and the running boards on either side have flip-up missile firers.

Amazon Tracker

Action Man Amazon Tracker

Dated 2002, the Amazon Tracker has removable side panels at the top just in case you come across a patch of mud which would otherwise bog the vehicle down.

Missiles fire from the front of the vehicle, above the windscreen and are activated by buttons either side of the Action Man sitting on top.

The man on top is actually an Aquablaster Action Man. The gun he's holding is actually a small but very efficient water pistol.

Jeep

Action Man - still in the army

The jeep above dates from 1997. You spot some similarities in the basic design with the safari truck, but this is altogether much more military.

The mssile firer on the back of this jeep is really quite powerful ... definitely one to keep out of the firing line.

The Action Man driving comes with his own grenade launcher, which he has stowed in the front seat ... I think he means business.

Action Man Armoured Car

Action Man Armoured Vehicle

This armoured vehicle dates from 2001.

It fires discs out of the front of the vehicle, activated by the orange lever at the side of the vehicle.

You have to watch these discs for getting lost under furniture, they can go quite some distance.

Action Man Team Truck

The Action Man Team Truck

Dating from 2004, this remarkable vehicle features in one of the movies.

It is, in fact, a mobile headquarters for Action Man and his friends, Redwolf and Flynt.

A set of steps flips down at the back, the side of the vehicle opens up and there is the computer screen, weapons cage and everything Action Man needs to carry out his missions.

In the side of the truck which doesn't open up is a pop up battery of missiles.

The only thing missing from my Team Truck is the aerial, which should be black.

The Team Truck opens out ...

... to reveal a mobile HQ
