Action Man on Two Wheels
Ranked #10,335 in Hobbies, Games & Toys, #140,231 overall
Motor Bikes and Cycles for the Modern Action Man
Action Man is the European version of GI Joe, the 12 inch tall fully posable action figure.
He made his first appearance in the UK in the mid 60s, disappearing in the mid 80s before returning in 1993 with a whole new look and an array of ultra modern vehicles and weapons.
This lens is dedicated to the two-wheeled forms of travel Action Man has available to him. Unfortunately, because of the limited size of these items, it can often be difficult to be precise about which year they date from as there isn't much space on them for maker's marks.
Often parts from the vehicles go missing, most often the decals are torn or curling, it's rare to find a played with toy in pristine condition but that's part of the fun of putting together a collection such as I have.
I will have more pictures to add to this lens, as there are at least another 4 bikes of one kind or another which I have in the collection.
Action Man Missile Bike
Missile Bike
... compressed air fires the foam missile
I'm sure there should be two missiles with the bike but missiles get lost with alarming frequency.
The foam missile is fired by placing it over the tube on Action Man's left and then drawing out the rear of the motorbike to push in again with as much force as you can muster, sending a blast of compressed air down the tube to fire the missile off the end.
The Action Man figure is specific to the bike. His helmet is permanently attached, his face being revealed by pressing a button on the back of the helmet to lift the visor. The 'gloved' hands are permanent as well.
As far as I can make out, this set dates from 1999 but that is taken from the date on the figure, the Polar Racer (below) uses the same figure and so has the same date appearing on it, in reality it is unlikely that both of these date from the same year and I hope to get definitive information on this to add here.

... with clothing including shaped to grip shoes
You'll notice that this is another figure with permanently gloved hands but his helmet is removable. In the picture, the full face visor is up.
It's perhaps a tad concerning that the shoes not only fit the peddles but also the pegs at the rear and at the front - I doubt a bike like this would take the weight of 3 muscular 6ft men LOL
There is no missile on this bike.
The stand, in which the front pegs rest, is dated 2000
Motorbike Racer
Motorbike Racer
... beautiful Action Man racing bike and matching outfit
This is the most complete example of this particular racing bike that I've been able to get. Most often the windshield is missing.
You can see again the specifically moulded parts on the figure which make it very clear he and this bike belong together and his rather smart (and dare I say sexy) motorbike outfit.
The helmet is detachable.
This specific figure for this bike is dated 1998.
Japanese Racing Bike - armed and dangerous
Japanese-style Bike
... armed and dangerous on this mean machine
I have no date for this bike at the moment but it has an intriguing missile firing mechanism.
On the side of the bike there is a flip down panel which reveals a stack of discs and a simple sprung lever which is used to fire them.
These discs can go quite a distance and are just perfect for losing under pieces of furniture!
But it's great fun LOL

My Action Man group of lenses
This will be a growing group of lenses and I expect to have at least 12 of them before I'm done.
If you like these 12 inch figures then you might want to watch out for the next lenses added.
Action Man shows off his motorbike
Action Man shows off his new MotoX bike
... and can't understand why Natalie is threatening to blast it if he doesn't stop about the shocks and all that
The Action Man shown does not go with the bike, he is actually part of another set but I have never yet seen any Action Man in an outfit which would imply he should be with this bike.
Of course, this means I have no way of guessing the date.

... with dedicated rider.
Clearly, this refers to the style of figure rather than the specific set he comes from, as above, the helmet is integral with the figure and the visor opens and closes (via a button) to reveal Action Man's face.
The whole figure is exactly the same, simply with a different colour scheme applied to match the motorbike.
The missile shown here is not the correct missile for this bike ... I'm still looking for it ... oops.
