0ctavia's Action Man on Squidoo

All my Action Man lenses are featured here and the majority of the photographs in all of these lenses are of Action Man figures from my own collection. There will be more lenses to add to these over the coming months, so if you're an Action Man fan, bookmark this page and check back again.

Action Man is the UK version of GI Joe although he rapidly developed his own seperate identity in the UK and Europe.

A 12 inch, fully posable figure, the early Action Man figures from the mid 1960s to mid 80s are already highly collectable along with their accessories, I would expect the modern Action Man, from 1993 on, to become just as collectable in future years, indeed, some of the earlier figures of this period are already rising in value.

So many little men

Originally I thought this series of lenses might extend to about a dozen but I quickly discovered it will ultimately be nearer to two dozen.

I have so much Action Man stuff and the collection just keeps on growing so the lenses I'm putting together are part a record of the collection and part to help others in identifying which figures they are looking at, where I can provide the information.

Changing Action Man

The Action Man physique has changed a great deal over the years and there are a number of Action Man look alikes which were produced, collectors of modern Action Man figures need to know what they are looking at.

One of the most common figures to be included as an Action Man in auction listings is Max Steel, so I have included a lens here about him as well. Of all the look alikes, he is the best and has quite an impressive range of equipment, vehicles etc. In my opinion, he is worth collecting in his own right, partly because you can normally get the figures and accessories for pennies and they can only go up in value.

A pair of drunken sailors

Vintage Sailors

I just love these drunken looking saioors, in my opinion, the photo just shows how realistic these 12 inch tall figures can be.

This pair both have flock hair and are from the 70's, as you can probably see, the one on the right of photo has the 'gripping' hands. Even when these are intact, the passage of time makes them delicate and easily damaged so you muct handle them with care. It's very common to find vintage Action Man figures with all their fingers missing but it is possible to buy replacement hands, usually you will find them on online auction sites.

For a couple of vintage sailors, they don't look too bad at all.

Two books I thoroughly recommend

Nice lens, I hadn't realised quite how many Action Men there are! I have actually linked this lens to my Freddy Krueger Action Figures lens as well. One of my poor brother's Action Man was forced to marry my Sindy doll (I was such a bossy big sister!).
