The Adirondack chair, was designed in 1903 by Thomas Lee. While in vacation in Westport, New York, he needed some outdoor chairs for his family, so he built it himself. His family gave him a positive feedback so Lee decided to bring his chair to a friend and carpenter : Harry Bunnell.
Bunnel found this chair was perfect to sell at summer residents in Westport and get a patent for the chair, without the permission of Thomas Lee, the original designer. What a good friend ! The Adirondack chair was born and Bunnell got a lot of success selling it.
The Adirondack chair is more comfortable today than it was a century ago. Indeed, the original design had a straight back and seat, made for mountains inclines. Nowadays more shapes are available and are just made for every outdoor conditions, in your backyard for example, outside cafes, around a pool, always perfect.
The wide armrests are still there, allowing you to have some food or drinks within reach. You can also add an Adirondack Ottoman or fottstool, to rest your legs and feet.
