Plus Other Coffee Stuff

I did many hours of research into coffee makers before deciding on an Aeropress. I learned that several factors influence the coffee you end up with: the temperature of the water, the way the water mixes with the coffee, and how the coffee is extracted from the grounds. I found it difficult to find knowledgeable reviews of the various coffee machines, so I decided to take control of my coffee preparation. The aeropress allows you to control how hot the water is and how long you let it mix with the coffee.

Coffee is a beverage that puts one to sleep when not drank.

How To Make Great Coffee Every Time

  • Use good quality coffee, freshly roasted and freshly ground

  • Use fresh, clean, cold water. Filtered or bottled water works well, but avoid distilled or softened water.

  • The grind chosen must be of the correct fineness for the chosen brewing method.

  • The post must be cleand and warm

  • Make only enough coffee for your immediate needs. The coffee will deteriorate if you keep it too long. Avoid reheating coffee, it just doesn't taste the same.

  • Avoid boiling brewed coffee - it is a sure way to spoil the coffee.

  • Use approximately 70 grams of coffee per litre of water.

don't want anything better, I want coffee.

Starbucks

In 1652 the first coffeehouse opens in England. Coffeehouses are called "penny universities" (a penny is charged for admission and a cup of coffee). Edward Lloyd's coffeehouse opens in 1688. It eventually becomes Lloyd's of London, the world's best known insurance company. The word "TIPS" is coined in an English coffee house: A sign reading "To Insure Prompt Service" (TIPS) was place by a cup. Those desiring prompt service and better seating threw a coin into a tin.

Coffee Grinders

Nothing beats a freshly ground, freshly brewed cuppa joe to start the day

Krups 203 Electric Coffee and Spice Grinder with Stainless-Steel blades

Krups 203 Electric Coffee and Spice Grinder with Stainless-Steel blades

This grinder is perfect for anybody with a coffee maker that uses #4 paper CONE filters (or slightly bigger or smaller). I emphasize PAPER because a permanent filter is not good for this grinder. Like any blade grinder, it will produce some dust. That creeps through the permafilter and into your pot is makes sludge. It sloppies up your coffee. Nothing gets through paper filters though.

About Coffee

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I drank as a child, and slept as a child. But now I am an adult and I have put away childish things. It's time you graduated to the real world of coffee drinking. I bet you've been drinking wimp coffee and expecting the results you can only get by way of a stiffly-brewed pot of Ethiopian Harararararar. That concrete face mask is what non-coffee-drinkers feel all the time! We who have become used to the invigorating effects of java forget what it was like to sleepwalk through life, operating at a fraction of our true potential. Don't worry. Grind some real beans. The best years are still ahead of you.
