Dynamic Affiliate Links - Optimised for Lenses

If you are a member of one or more affiliate programs, like Amazon, then you probably already know how put static links on your lenses. However, over time these links can become outdated or even broken, and you could be losing revenue because of this.

Affiliate RSS Feeds allow you dynamically display products on your lens, such that they are always up-to-date. All you need to do is add a RSS module to your lens, and then setup one of the feeds shown below.

How To Add an Affiliate Feed

to a Squidoo lens

All of the tools on this page will provide you with a URL for an RSS Feed. To put these on to a lens, all you need to do is add the RSS Module, and set it up as shown below:
  1. Generate the RSS feed you need from the tools below.
  2. Add an RSS Feed Module to your lens.
  3. Copy the URL provided, and paste it in to the RSS module.
  4. Enter how many items you want to see.
  5. For the Excerpt, select 'everything available'.
  6. Make sure you select 'Yes' to 'display HTML in excerpt'.

RSS Feeds for Affiliates

eBay RSS Feeds
One of the other top money making modules on Squidoo is the eBay module. Here is an alternative way to display eBay auctions, with the flexibility to show auctions from other countries or specific sellers.
Amazon Associates RSS Feeds
Lensmasters who are also Amazon Associates will have the option of using RSS feeds instead of a module, and this will allow them to potentially earn more revenue. There are three types of RSS feed available for Amazon: by Category, by Listmania list and by Product ASIN.
ClickBank HopAds RSS Feeds
The Clickbank RSS Feed tool will provide you with an feed of HopAds for digital products. When a visitor clicks on one of these links and buys something from ClickBank, you get a share of the commission (up to 75% of the sale). All you need to do is pick a keyword and enter your Clickbank affiliate ID:
eCrater RSS Feeds
This Yahoo! Pipe takes the feeds provide by eCrater, and tweaks them for optimal display on a Squidoo Lens. This is primarily for people who are have their own stores on eCrater, as they don't have an affiliate program.

    thanks for this tutorial about affiliate RSS feeds, Fluff. Making this RSS stuff a priority to learn right now and there's more options than I ever realized. I think Squidcasts have gone by the wayside now though, right? Might have to update/delete that portion.

    This was great. Since you wrote this lens, ecrater now has it's own RSS at the bottom of each shop that you put in it. I have 5 shops in my grandmamarilyn's shop and it has an RSS at the bottom of each page. Weird that we have to do it by the page but it is better than nothing.

    I've seen this kind of stuff before. I actually have an affiliate rss feed on freelance jobs from a website i'm promoting. I'm surprised on how these existed around me for a couple of years with me knowing until i found out last year in late 2010.

    Affiliate Feeds are an excellent way to create automated niche content sites, but just make sure the top content of the site is unique and add a great footer, it will help you rank easy on search engines!... Great Lens!

eBay RSS Feeds

One of the other top money making modules on Squidoo is the eBay module. Here is an alternative way to display eBay auctions, with the flexibility to show auctions from other countries or specific sellers.

All clicks will be automatically attributed to the lens on which the RSS feed appears. You don't need to sign up with EPN at all. Any commissions earnt will be shared with Squidoo, and will appear on the 'Revenue' stats tab for the lens.

This tool supports a bunch of countries (including US Motors), and the feeds are optimised for Squidoo. All you need to do is provide a search term. There are a bunch of other options that you can choose if you need them. Example feed is shown below.

Tips:
1. set the RSS module to display the entire descriptions and HTML
2. and also make sure it updates every 30 minutes

Squidoo has a perfectly wonderful Amazon module (actually, there are 4 Amazon modules), and this can be setup to show a dynamic list of products. However, any revenue earn from these modules will share with Squidoo.

  • You must specify a store name, i.e. the first part of the store's domain.
  • The category number (CID) can be found at the end of the URL.
  • The Sort can be one of: date, name or price.
  • Keywords are optional.


Once you have enter the options you need and are happy with the results, you need to click on "More options" to get the RSS feed. Right click on the link on the menu to copy it, and then paste it into your RSS module.

Here is what the new feed will look like. It is almost identical to the one provided by eCrater, but the "Buy Now" button is placed neatly next to the image instead of being underneath it.
