Basic affiliate marketing is an arrangement between an online merchant and its affiliates (you) by which the merchant pays a commission to its affiliates for bringing customers, sales or leads to the merchant's website through use of a merchant-supplied personalized link.

For example, say you joined the affiliate program of a retail clock store, and this merchant pays its affiliates a 30% commission on any clocks that are sold through your link. If a visitor comes to your website and clicks your affiliate link to go to the clock store website, and then buys a $100 clock from that merchant's website, you just made $30 by doing nothing more than supplying a link to the store!

Pretty cool, huh?

One of the first places you should go to seek affiliate marketing help is through an affiliate marketing forum.

These days, forums are popping up all over the 'net to help with just about any kind of online issue or subject. Just like, for example, if you need help with your Squidoo account, you can go to the Squidoo forum to find the answer to almost any question.

...Likewise, when you need help with affiliate marketing, just find yourself an affiliate marketing forum.

Forums are where people go to find like-minded communities of other people within a particular niche or subject matter. Some forum members, like you, are there to get answers to questions. Other people are there because they have relevent experiences that can be helpful to answer those questions.

To find affiliate marketing help, just browse through each affilate marketing forum that you come to (Here's a Google Search Page with lots of affiliate marketing forum options) and see what discussion topics are available. You might find that someone has posted information that precisely answers your question.

To find an affiliate marketing directory of merchants, the best place to start your search is in an affiliate marketing NETWORK. These are essentially "middle man" networks that bring together affiliates and merchants. Now, some merchants elect to bypass using an affiliate marketing network altogether, preferring to deal with affiliates on their own instead.

But many larger (and now more and more smaller) companies like having the convenience of having the networks manage most of their affiliate program details for them - like handling commission payouts, affiliate recruitment, etc. So an affiliate marketing network is, I would say, is the best place to start when looking for an affiliate marketing directory of merchants.

GOOGLE ADWORDS HELP




One critical area of affiliate marketing that you need to eventually MASTER is Pay Per Click Advertising (PPC), and specifically Google Adwords (there's also Yahoo and other PPC, but Google is by far the KING).

Very simply, Google Adwords, is a form of advertising on the Google Search Network. You can find examples of adwords ads on just about any Google Search page. They are the "sponsored" ads that you may find on the right column of a search.

When you have become proficient at this form of advertising, you will find it to be extremely powerful, bringing your affiliate programs fast traffic and fast profit. But Google Adwords can also COST you money and be treacherous if you don't know how to use the system.
