Agastache Coronado

Zones 4-9

The Longest-Blooming Agastache of All

Few sights compare to a fully-blooming Coronado in the sunny late-season garden, its blooms radiant orange-yellow, its peppermint-scented foliage tossing silvery glints, and its habit neat and compact. The longest-blooming member of its family, it demonstrates superb heat tolerance, attracting butterflies and hummingbirds as it flowers through the worst August weather.Just 15 to 20 inches high and up to 20 inches wide, this adaptable perennial is one of the easiest and most rewarding to grow in any sun-soaked setting.

The foliage releases its scent when touched, so plant Coronado where you will brush past it along pathways, at the front of the border, and in containers on the patio. And the blooms are superb for cutting as well as garden enjoyment. Very resistant to diseases, pests, humidity, poor soil, and even a bit of drought, Coronado belongs in meadow gardens as well as in the landscape of any southern and southwestern garden! And if you love Agastache as we do, please consider Black Adder and Sonoran Sunset as well.

Agastache Purple Haze

Zones 4-9

Compact Enough for Containers, but Big Garden Impact

The lavender blooms are joined by rosy-red calyces for a charming two-tone effect. So compact that it can be grown in containers, this lovely Anise Hyssop sports tall, elegant spikes of lavender with rosy-red calyces in late summer. Lasting for many weeks, the blooms attract butterflies by the dozen, and are ideal for cutting. Even when not in bloom, however, this carefree perennial is attractive, thanks to its richly aromatic blue-green foliage and neat size.Purple Haze reaches just 18 inches high and a foot wide.

Very floriferous, it is perfect for up-close enjoyment, where the slightest brush against its foliage releases the sweet scent of licorice. Bring it onto the patio, up the porch steps, and along the driveway, as well as in the border and as an accent planting. And if you like Purple Haze, be sure to consider another compact variety, Coronado.

Agastache Black Adder

Zones 6-9

Far longer-blooming than older varieties!

Plant Patent Applied For. Cultivar name: 'Black Adder'.Is there anything more magnificent in the summer and early fall garden than long-blooming, butterfly- and hummingbird-friendly Hyssop? This new variety will complement older Hyssops with its nearly-black buds and rich, deeply-colored red-violet blooms. You just can't find a better, more carefree performer for the sunny bed or border.

These flowers open on long racemes, each quite small but jammed together so tightly and profusely that the effect is of a long wand of solid color! And what a color it is. The buds are nearly black, bursting into rich violet and deep red tones as the petals unfurl. Spectacular Black Adder blooms from early summer right into fall, much longer than older varieties. This is because it's sterile, so it WON'T toss seeds all over your yard. It devotes all its energy to flower production, and you are going to love the results.

Black Adder has been found to grow successfully in a wide range of climates, from wet and cold to warm and dry, humid to arid. Give it full sun and good drainage, and after the first year you'll find that it even puts up with periods of drought. A superbly garden-worthy perennial, deserving of a place in your garden! This plant reaches 3 feet high and about 2 1/2 feet wide. Space the plants 2 feet apart for a good dense, bushy look.
