Air Optix for Astigmatism Review
Air Optix for Astigmatism (also known as o2 Optix) is a four-week daily wear toric lens developed by CIBA Vision. This lens is made from silicone hydrogel material allowing 5 times more oxygen to reach the eye.
These lenses are intended for daily and you can even take a nap with them or sleep up to six nights (but it is recommended to check first with your eye doctor).
These lenses are tinted for ease of handling and will not change the color of your eye. The tint is simply designed to facilitate locating the contact lenses in solution.
These are excellent lenses, the reported comfort level is very high due to its silicon hydrogel material that it's made of. This material is highly breathable and that is why it is so healthy for your eyes. If you suffered in the past from redness and dryness, you should give these a try. Regular toric lenses are usually thicker than non toric lenses, this thickness reduces the oxygen transmissibility of the lens and increases the possibility of corneal oxygen deficiency which causes the redness and dryness symptoms mentioned before and the are usually even more severe than in regular contact lenses. This is why you will probably find the air optix to be much more comfortable than your current lenses.
They are not the cheapest lenses on the market, as you can see below, but its for a reason, these are the best contact lenses for astigmatism available today.

Amazing lenses, i love them! you don't even feel that they're there and you can even nap or sleep with them without feeling you have to take them out afterwards. They are definitely not cheap, you can find toric lenses for a lot less, but they are worth every cent. I got mine at lens.com which was the best deal i found and i see now that the price is even lower now. They are the best!

Without enough oxygen, you might feel symptoms such as end-of day discomfort, irritation, dryness, and redness. Also known as Corneal Oxygen Deficiency. In the long run, lack of oxygen may even cause complications. People who wear their contacts longer than the recommended wearing time are most at risk. AIR OPTIX is made with a revolutionary silicone hydrogel technology allowing 5 times more oxygen to reach the eye than the leading 2-week lens to help protect you from the signs and symptoms of Corneal Oxygen Deficiency. Air Optix for Astigmatism Review
For astigmatic patients requiring a toric soft lens, the benefits of SiHy materials are even more pronounced. Toric lenses are thicker than their spherical equivalent due to designs intended to make the lenses rotationally more stable. This increase in thickness reduces the oxygen transability of the lens and increases the possibility of corneal oxygen deficiency. Other Silicone hydrogel lenses:

Air Optix for Astigmatism Review
Prior to the launch of the new lens, evaluation trials were conducted in the Nordic region and the UK.Methods
This was an open-label, bilateral, single group, multi-centre trial conducted in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, from December 2005 to June 2006. The test lenses, Air Optix for Astigmatism, were CE marked and used within their indication. The lens parameters that were evaluated are shown in Table 1.
Thirty-nine investigators enrolled a total of 328 subjects to wear the lens, with visits at dispensing and after 2-4 weeks of wear. Subjects were either habitual contact lens wearers (88 per cent) or spectacle wearers with astigmatism.
Subjective and objective performance was documented both at dispensing and when subjects returned for a final visit after approximately four weeks of wear. Subjective results were measured using questionnaires, and objective measures, such as lens fit and on-eye orientation, were recorded by investigators.
Results
All 328 subjects who were enrolled in the trial returned for a follow-up visit and completed the trial period. Of these, 227 (69 percent) subjects were female and 97 (30 percent) were male (1 percent were not reported).
Subjects reported wearing the test lenses, on average, 6.23 days per week (range one to seven days). The wearing time per day was reported to be, on average, 12.79 hours (range 2 to 24 hours). Comfortable wearing time was on average 11.37 hours (range zero to 24 hours).
Of those who expressed a preference, a majority of previous contact lens wearers preferred the test lens to their habitual lenses for vision (3.6:1), comfort (4.3:1) and overall (3.2:1). These percentages were significantly different from 50 per cent, with p<0.001 (exact binominal test).
There was also a high degree of satisfaction with the test lens. A majority of subjects (73 per cent) were either 'fully' or 'mostly' satisfied with the lens at the final visit. Nearly twice as many subjects were fully satisfied with the test lens as they were with their habitual lenses (Figure 5).
Subjects were also asked to express their agreement with the following statements regarding the performance of the test lenses:
* Are comfortable when first put in
* Are still comfortable at the end of the day
* Are comfortable all day long
* Provide crisp, clear vision
* Provide stable vision
* Are easy to insert
* Are easy to remove from the eye.
For all statements, a majority of subjects were in agreement. Agreement varied between 94 per cent for 'easy to insert' and 72 per cent for 'still comfortable at the end of the day'. At both dispensing and final visit, more than 98 per cent of fits were acceptable and more than 72 per cent were optimal. More than 82 per cent of lenses oriented within 5° of horizontal almost 45 per cent were exactly horizontal and a further 37 per cent were within 5°. Where there was a deviation from horizontal, the average orientation was 5° ±3.4° to 4.6° nasal up. At both the dispensing and final visits, more than 93 per cent of lenses rotated less than 3° with the blink.
At the end of the trial 78 per cent of the subjects went on to purchase Air Optix for Astigmatism.
Conclusions
Air Optix for Astigmatism was well received by subjects. A large majority were satisfied with the comfort, vision and handling provided by the lens. This satisfaction resulted in a clear preference over their habitual lenses. The lens also demonstrated a fast and effective fitting procedure. Most subjects went on to purchase lenses after the trial was completed.
