Over 30 years and still going, Canadian trio rock group RUSH has been my biggest music inspiration and, as a guitarist, Alex Lifeson's colorful textures of sound and chord progressions has influenced my playing, not only as a player, but how I write as a songwriter and musician. Obviously there are many guitarists I've been influenced by, but given the opportunity to Squidoo a Who's Who lens, well..here it is.
Thank you Alex for who you are, not only for as a player more than half the years of my life, but as a human being and a hell of a funny guy.

Hey, Pick Your Favorite RUSH Album for Guitar
OK, we all have different strings (sorry for the pun), but I know even some out there enjoyed Alex's post-Moving Pictures-pre-Counterparts era of direct recording sound. So I'll throw PW in.

Rush - La Villa Strangiato
Nice vid almost 30 years ago!
Rush - La Villa Strangiato at Pinkpop 1979
I was 19 at that time and saw that performance, it was my first Rush concert. This was the last performance of the European tour in 1979. Alex Lefeson hurt his finger because he had a very wild night with his wife, his finger came between the mattress and the bed. Info came from: Tjerk Lammers, he was there press manager from WEA record company at that time.

Great Lens! The La Villa Strangiato was a nice choice. Even though my earliest memories of Rush is probably Tom Sawyer, I enjoy their older songs more. 2112 remains one of my favorite albums, and I did have it on vinyl!! Posted August 23, 2008 |
Well done!! your guitars info is really wonderful. I got rare info about guitars thanks for your sharing...guitar

Asking me to give my favorite album with Alex's guitar sound besides Moving Pictures???? I can't do it! I could go back to their first album, and go from there. I would actually say that the album I liked the LEAST for guitar sounds (but I still loved the album) was Power Windows....That was more of the "New Wave" keyboard period. Still a great album, but a lot less guitars, you could put Signals in that catagory as well. But seeing how I've been a Rush fan since 1978, I really can't give you a best, and even their worst is still fantastic! When it comes to professionalism and musical perfection.....you can't beat Rush!

Alex is a God! He is absolutely amazing and to pick a particular cd in which I love his guitar playing the most, besides Power Windows, idk maybe I'm biased I love everything he's ever done.I love Signals,Presto, and the rage in Vapor Trails-everything in between too man.-They rule.
