Alexander Rybak: Eurovision Sensation

Alexander Rybak (born May 13, 1986) is the 25-year-old violinist and singer who took Europe by storm, following his victory for Norway at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest.

His song Fairytale ran away with the competition, gaining the most votes in any Eurovision Song Contest, by scoring 387 points from the 42 participating countries.

Alexander Rybak Sings Fairytale

Rybak won the 54th Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow, Russia singing the song Fairytale, a composition inspired by Norwegian folk music. The song was composed and written by Rybak, and was performed with the modern folk dance company, Frikar.

Rybak's 2009 Eurovision win broke the previous record of 292 points scored by Lordi in 2006, finishing with a grand total of 387 points, 95 points more than the previous record holders, and 169 more than 2009 runner up Iceland.

It has since gone on to hit the Top 10 charts across Europe, including the coveted #1 position in several territories.

Alexander Rybak

Rybak was awarded the Anders Jahre Culture Prize in 2004.

He entered Norway's version of Idol reaching the semi final.

He won the talent competition Kjempesjansen in 2006, hosted by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation with his own song Foolin'.

Rybak played the fiddler in Oslo Nye Teater's production of "Fiddler on the Roof". He won the Hedda Award for this role.

Rybak has collaborated with artists such as A-Ha's lead singer Morten Harket.
