Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Tim Burton's new 3-D version of "Alice in Wonderland" should probably be called "Return To Wonderland" as Alice is now an adult and stumbles back into Wonderland. This lens is about "everything" Alice In Wonderland, from the original novel to the new movie in 2010. It is includes sites, info, and more.
Alice In Wonderland, the 2010 movie by Tim Burton
Tim Burton's new 3-D version of "Alice in Wonderland" is actually about Alice returning to Wonderland. This is not a children's film, but is geared toward adults. To be honest, I always thought the book was kind of scary when I was a kid, but as an adult I've loved it. I've played the PC video game of Alice (American McGee's Alice), which was extremely bizarre, scary, freaky, and wild. So there are many who think the story is odd, freaky, and scary or else they wouldn't have created such a game. I read Roger Ebert's review of the new movie and he seems to feel the same way about the book. So like I said I am not alone in thinking that perhaps the original novel is really more for adults these days. Sensibilities in the Victorian Era were different now and I think that children grew up earlier then, life was much more "hard, brutal, and short" then than it is today. was always perhaps made for adults and not young children. I must say though I did enjoy all specials and kid movies and coloring bocks and such.
I agree with many Burton has Done it Nice pick for his art. My husband loves Burtons work and Johny Depp has always worked well with Burton and his imagination playing characters perfectly.
I am excited to see the movie and will write a review here.
Also a new video game will be fallowing the movie and the movie story line.

Movie Reviews
- Critic Review for Alice in Wonderland in Disney Digital 3D
- Is there a better movie-match than Lewis Carroll and Tim Burton? With "Alice in Wonderland," his boldly revisionist remix of Carroll's beloved tales of a young girl's journey down a rabbit hole and through a looking glass, Burton finely balances excess and restraint to create an absorbing, visually rich world of his very own.
- 3-D 'Alice in Wonderland' sparkles with magic, splendor - USATODAY.com
- Director Tim Burton has reimagined Lewis Carroll's classic tale in a way that might put some purists off. But the story he presents, with a more empowered 19-year-old Alice, is engaging and amusing. The visual landscape in which she travels is awash in color, magic and splendor.
- Roger Ebert Sun times
- Why does "Alice in Wonderland" have to end with an action sequence? Characters not rich enough? Story run out? Little minds, jazzed by sugar from the candy counter, might get too worked up without it? Or is it that executives, not trusting their artists and timid in the face of real stories, demand an action climax as insurance? Insurance of what? That the story will have a beginning and a middle but nothing so tedious as an ending?
- The PopMatters
- Now, it's a near masterpiece, lacking just enough focus to keep it from being a 100% complete success.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland the book
"Alice in Wonderland" is the common way people refer to the book "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". Originally published in 1865 it is a novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pen name Lewis Carroll. "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" is the story of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole which transports her to a fantasy world populated by strange creatures, many with anthropomorphic characteristics (anthropomorphic creatures are non-human creatures such as animals and plants that exhibit human characteristics). The story has many allusions to Carroll's friends and acquaintances. The novel plays with logic in ways that have given the story long lasting popularity with children and adults. Alice In Wonderland is considered to be a representative example of the "literary nonsense" genre. Literary nonsense refers to a style of literature that plays with the conventions of language, along the rules of logic and reason, the effect of which is often to cause an excess of meaning, rather than a lack of it. The novel's plot and structure have been enormously influential across the spectrum of literature, especially within the fantasy genre.
"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" was written three years after the Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson and the Reverend Robinson Duckworth rowed a boat up the River Thames with the three young daughters of Henry George Liddell, the Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University and headmaster of Westminster School. The girls were Lorina, Alice, and Edith. Most of the novel's adventures are based on people, situations and buildings in Oxford and at Christ Church. A prime example is the "Rabbit Hole" which symbolized the actual stairs in the back of the main hall in Christ Church. Their boat ride had started near Oxford and ended five miles away in the village of Godstow. To pass the time Dodgson told the girls a story that, not so coincidentally, featured a bored little girl named Alice who goes looking for an adventure. The girls simply fell in love with the story and Alice asked Dodgson to write it down for her. After a two year delay he did so and in November of 1864 gave Alice the handwritten manuscript of "Alice's Adventures Under Ground", which included illustrations penned by Dodgson himself. Before Alice received her copy, Dodgson was already preparing it for publication by expanding the original story to one that was 27,500 words long. The final draft included the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Tea-Party, which were not part of the original draft presented to Alice. The printed novel was titled Alice's Adventures in Wonderland under Dodgson's pen name "Lewis Carroll" and included illustrations by John Tenniel.
The first edition sold out quickly, Alice became a publishing sensation and was beloved by adults and children alike. Queen Victoria and the young Oscar Wilde, as well as many other luminaries of the period were the first avid readers of Alice. The book is still beloved and has never been out of print, it has been translated into 125 languages. There have now been over a hundred editions of the book. As previously stated the book is commonly referred to by the abbreviated title Alice in Wonderland, which is an alternative title often used in stage, film and television adaptations of the story produced over the years.
Dodgson wrote a sequel to the book titled "Through the Looking-Glass, and, What Alice Found There" which was published in 1872 also under the pen name Lewis Carroll. Dodgson wrote this in 1871 after meeting another Alice during his time in London, Alice Raikes, and talking with her about her reflection in a mirror. This sequel sold even better than the original and was a huge hit at the time.
