Traffic Is the ONLY thing
Traffic is not the most important thing - it's the ONLY thing! (with apologies to Vince Lombardi).
Traffic is THE vital component of EVERY marketing campaign.
Offers without potential customers willing to consider them are NEVER going to be accepted. So, it's a waste of time and resources creating products and websites without a strategy for bringing qualified visitors to look at your offering - at a viable cost per visit.
Read that again and decide if you agree - because if not, there's no point in reading on........
Our objective is to evaluate sources and methods of traffic generation and to share experiences in using them.
We define "traffic" as a stream of internet users who are ready willing and able to consider our offers and, if convinced by them, undertake specific predefined action. We call such elusive targeted persons "leads", "records", "suspects", "prospects", sales prospects", and probably many other things depending on context!
Traffic can be analyzed by qualities such as demographic, geographic, economic, interest or any other criterion permitting selection of those more likely to respond favourably to our propositions. Traffic selected by such criteria is called TARGETED TRAFFIC.
TARGETED TRAFFIC is a scarce, valuable and readily marketable commodity. Because it is valuable and marketable, surplus traffic can be monetized to fund outsourcing any (or all) other elements of the marketing process.
Conclusion - forget technology and website development and instead start thinking TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC.......
So first, last and always - TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC.......
There's a zillion ways to create traffic
Here are some we'll write about - any others you want added?
As soon as I can get a survey tool up and running I'll ask you about your priorities for topic lenses.
Any advice on integrating surveys with Squidoo?
Don't forget that backlinks are your own best bet for free search engine traffic. So, if you have a relevant lens or article I'll be happy to cite your reference (subject to relevance and acceptable quality).

ARTICLE MARKETING
Publish articles in article directories for visibility and backlinks
In your article "resource box" you can publish links to your website home page or to internal pages of more specific relevance. Such "deep linking" will boost your website SEO ranking and is one of the only practical ways to get links to internal pages.
Article directories operate at different speeds to publish new articles. Consequently, traffic may build slowly, but it will endure correspondingly longer.
Article publishing is a numbers game. Do not imagine that publishing a single article will materially affect your overall traffic. However, a discipline of regular article publication will yield excellent long term results.
Listen up, because the tip I'm about to divulge is little known - but is worth its weight in gold. ALWAYS publish your article on your own website BEFORE you submit it to any article directories.
This ensures that YOU get full credit by the search engines for ORIGINAL content.
Originality will boost your site's SEO ranking and draw you more traffic. Failure to follow this safeguard cedes the (massive) originality advantage to the first publishing article directory.
Article directories were not all created equal. In fact, many are a waste of time and space. Better to focus on a few powerful directories that are quickly indexed rather than shotgun duplicate content around the web.
I rate "Ezine Articles" top gun. Post your comment below to share other good article directory experiences.
If you submit to multiple directories, rewrite your content sufficiently that it is not penalized as duplicate. Multiple editions of duplicate content yield little incremental traffic.
TRAFFIC EXCHANGES (MANUAL)
Using Traffic Exchanges efffectively to drive free traffic to your website or affiliate link
Traffic Exchanges are NOT created equal.
You can exclude great swathes of the exchanges on offer as completely useless time wasters.
1 AutoSurf exchanges generate stacks of traffic but none of it converts. Experienced users will avoid this sector totally.
2. Manual exchanges vary widely in effectiveness. Many (most?) are ineffective in generating useful prospects and are better skippped.
3 Traffic Hoopla maintains an objective statistical database comparing the effectiveness of all significant traffic exchanges. This is excellent value to consult to avoid wasting time on exchanges that do not produce leads which convert.
There is a modest charge in return for which you get totally objective advice. If they had to rely on advertising revenues, you would lose their objectivity. So accept that sometimes it is in your own interest to pay a few dollars to preserve the independent quality of advice.
4. Your traffic will comprise other Traffic Exchange users. These are mainly other Internet Marketers which is fine if you are selling a product or service targeted at Internet Marketers.
BUT if you are pursuing a niche market you risk very low conversion rates from Traffic Exchange traffic because of targeting problems.
On the internet, untargeted traffic is rarely worth its cost in money or time. So better to pursue another line of attack where you can identify properly targeted traffic.
