If you haven't heard of Webkinz, it's the social media/computer game/stuffed animal craze that's like taking Second Life, Tamagotchi pets, Beanie Babies and casual gaming, putting them in a blender and making it all extremely kid-friendly.

Webkinz World

Webkinz World

Webkinz are stuffed animals that were originally released by the Ganz company on April 29, 2005. The toys are similar to many other small plush toys, however they come with a special code on their labels that allows access to the "Webkinz World" which is a website to own a virtual version of the pet for virtual interaction. There are also smaller, less expensive versions of the toys called Lil' Kinz.

Each Webkinz stuffed animal and Webkinz accessory comes with an 8-character code. By registering this code on the Webkinz website, you "adopt" this pet in the virtual Webkinz World, which is an online play area with its own economy. The user receives money (called KinzCash) by adopting new pets, playing online games, answering general knowledge questions, and through daily activities like clicking "I love my Webkinz!", spinning the Wheel of WOW, playing Wishing Well 2, or completing jobs (minigames) available once every 8 hours. Each day, there is a Game of the Day which can be played for bonus KinzCash, and other bonuses are available each hour, full days on weekends and afternoons only on weekdays.

Users can spend their KinzCash at what is called the W Shop, where they can purchase food and clothing for their pet, items for their pet's room or to build additional rooms onto their house, or outdoors areas etc. Users can decorate a room for their pet with pre-made themes, or mix and match their own furniture.

The online world also contains many rare or exclusive items. Some of these items require developing a friendship with the Curio Shop owner to purchase, while others you get for registering other Webkinz accessories you purchase in the real world. Each type of pet gets a special food available exclusively for them. Also, a Pet of the Month is announced at the beginning of each month. If a person registers the announced pet in that month, they will receive other exclusive items.

Many of the tasks in Webkinz World involve collecting items. For example, recipes are released for the players through cookbooks you can purchase or one of the TV Shows called The Secret Chef. Gems can be mined once a day at the Curio Shop, with a full set of gems being turned into the Webkinz Crown of Wonder and buy exclusive items. You can also go to Dr. Quack for a check up on your Webkinz' health.

Some other features of Webkinz include:

The ability for players to create their own shows with the Webkinz Studio, and enter to be chosen to appear on the Webkinz television.
Buying a swimming pool, where you can have your Webkinz swim around. This increases their health.
Sending gifts or letters to friends on a peer-to-peer network.
Invite a friend over to your house, where you can chat and interact with some board games and items.
Participate in the hourly events, which can earn you prizes, KinzCash, and coupons, among other things.
Play Wacky Bingoz, a form of Bingo where you get one, two, and three ball games every day.[1]

W-Plus & Trading Cards
Aside from the Webkinz and Lil' Kinz pets, Ganz also has made other toys that can be used on Webkinz World. These are called W-Plus items, and all W-Plus items come with a secret code that can be used in the Code Shop in Webkinz World. These codes unlock items for the Webkinz pets, like new room themes, clothing for pets, kinzcash, and other prizes.

Trading Cards
Also been released is Webkinz Trading Cards. Their are two series of cards and they are used to play the challenge game. The cards come in booster packs, with 5 playing cards and a code card in each pack. In these packs their are also chances of getting special cards as well, like free pet codes. In series one you can also get Curio Shop Curiosities and Webkinz Doodlez[3]. In series two there is At Paw Level and W-Tales Snapshots instead. These special cards are foil. For series one 80 base cards have been released, 12 challenges, 8 Curio Shop Curiosities and 8 Webkinz Doodlez. In series two there are 85 base cards, 15 challenges, 8 At Paw Levels and 8 W-Tales Snapshots[4]. The cards are also W-Plus items, and they each come with 2-5 codes. 1 code on each card is for a virtual pack of trading cards, while the other 1-4 can unlock prizes like rare and exculsive themes or coupons.

Kinzcash?

Webkinz plush toys are undoubtedly a hot item for children of all ages. These cute
plush toys come with a code that gives the owner access to the Webkinz website.

Once the Webkinz is activated online, the owner must take care of their virtual pet.

But just like in real life, it doesn't come cheap. It takes money (or Kinzcash, as it
is known in Webkinz world) to buy food, furniture, clothing and all the cool rare items that are offered in the Webkinz W-Shop and Curio Shop. So what are the best ways to earn Webkinz kinzcash? Here are some tips!

Things You'll Need:

Step1
Do your Daily Events every day. Each day there are activities that users can do once per day. These activities, like the Wheel of Wow and the Wishing Well, give users a chance to earn instant kinzcash. 5 spins on the Wishing Well will average you 50 kinzcash per day- and sometimes you can earn a lot more than that! Don't forget to do the Pet Care Award every day too. You will net Kinzcash (the amount goes up each day that you do it in a week) and a free food item for your pet!
Step2
Check out the Hourly Events. Every day at 4:00 Kinz Time, special activities can be done once per hour (the Hourly Activities are available all day in the summer time when school is out). Do a quick check at some point in the day to be on the lookout for any "hot" hourly activities. Two to look out for: the Big Button of Kinzcash (which is not offered very often) and any bonus offers for arcade games.
Step3
Answer the weekly survey question. This can be done once a week. Answer the survey question and get 50 Kinzcash and a health boost for your pet! To find the weekly survey question click on the Newspaper tab, then the Contact Us tab, then Comments and Suggestions. The survey question will pop up (this usually seems to
be updated on Fridays).
Step4
Visit the employment office at least twice a day. The Webkinz employment office is your key to earning big cash every day. Master a difficult job and you can net up to 350 kinzcash each time. The employment office can be accessed once every 8 hours.

Try to visit at least twice a day and master a job so that you can get to the highest level. The best jobs for novices are Fence Painting and Shoe Store Clerk. The best difficult jobs are Kinzpost Sorter and Gem Mining.
Step5
Master an arcade game and play it often. Arcade games are another way to earn quick cash and there's no limit to how often you can play! For really quick cash, try Quizzy's Word Challenge.
Step6
Answer Quizzy's Daily bonus question. If you visit Quizzy's Corner, click on the Daily Bonus question. A correct answer will earn you a quick 10 points (instead of the usual 5 points).
Step7
Keep track of your Gem Hunt gems. Before you visit Arte's Gem Hunt, check to see which gems you have already collected. Sell any gems that you already have.

Sometimes Arte offers a couple hundred kinzcash for a gem- and you don't gain anything from having 2 of the same gem!
Step8
Sell stuff you don't want. If your friends send you clothes and furniture that you don't want, click on the Sell button at the W-Shop. You will only net half the amount of Kinzcash that they paid for it, but it's better than clogging up your dock with stuff you don't want!
