Try something new this summer.
If you have ever seen pictures of the truly unique Cape Verde islands you would have surely wondered 'I wish I could go on holiday there'. I did the same, about four years ago, only to find that the tourist industry was in its infancy and only having limited options to those living in continental Europe. What a difference a few years makes. With All inclusive holidays to Cape Verde as easy to get as the canaries you would have thought that Cape Verde had always been a place to take a holiday. These ten islands off the coast of Senegal are slowly but surely rising above the tourist industry's parapet, and you can quite easily see why. Al lInclusive holidays to Cape Verde are ideal for people who want a relaxing beach holiday.
Where are the Cape Verde Islands?
The Cape Verde islands lie roughly 400 miles off the coast of West Africa, and about 1000km to the south of the Canary Islands. They are an archipelago that sits in the Atlantic ocean. Due to their position they enjoy year round temperatures, up to 300 days of sunshine a year and cooling breeze during the hot summer months. Flights are available from four UK airports direct to Sal and Boa Vista.
The Caribbean without the 9 hour flight, hurricanes and jet lag.
In terms of holidays in Cape Verde the most developed island both in terms of infrastructure and tourism is the island of Sal. This is situated in the northern group of islands and already has an impressive array of resorts to choose from. It is quite literally a desert island, and with direct flights from the UK is one of the most accessible destination in the Cape Verde islands. The main resort is Santa Maria on the south coast of the island. Here you will find numerous resorts to choose from and most are within easy walking distance to the world class beaches. Sal is not just a destination for families taking a holiday. There is a growing diving and windsurfing scene as well. Since the islands are nestled in the Atlantic which makes for great surfing as well as diving with the crystal clear and warm waters. If you are looking for a relaxing beach holiday then the resorts of Sal are an ideal choice.
There are also plenty of things to see and do. Although the choice of acitivities in Sal is limited, you can explore the island on a quad bike or take a tour in a 4x4. The coasline offers plenty of secluded coves where it is not uncommon to find deserted beaches. To the North of the island there is are salt flats (Sal is Portugese for Salt) which has a man made salt lake which you can swim in. There is also the opportunity to visit some of the other islands in the country including Santiago, a tropical island with the country's capital city Praia. If you want to see a volcano fly to the island of Fogo, or if you want to see some more spectacular beaches head to Boa Vista, just a short boat trip from Sal.

Below is some additional information that might be helpful
Vaccinations There are no compulsory vaccinations for Cape Verde. Due to the dry climate Malaria is not a big issue and the general advice is that no anti-malarial tablets are needed. A Yellow Fever certificate will be needed if you are travelling or passing through an area where Yellow Fever is prevalent. Many visitors from the UK will not be needing this. It is always a good idea to seek medical advice before travelling.
Medical Facilities There are small clinics on most islands, including Sal and a major medical facility on the island of Sao Vincente. Bring your own prescription medication and the usual over the counter medicine. Travel Insurance is highly recommended
Weather The weather is warm all year round. Make sure you bring suncreen, even when it seems overcast.
Things to see and do there is plenty to see and do on Sal as well as the other islands. Visiting the other islands in Cape Verde is usually a day event but they are all easily reachable by air.
