The Awesome Blossom Dachshund Page

While I love all animals, Dachshunds are indeed special, and they do in fact have unique needs and qualities compared to other dogs and my site All Wiener Dogs is dedicated to them, and all who love them like I do!

Our story

When my youngest daughter asked for a puppy for her birthday 6 years ago I began researching dogs, and low and behold, a dachshund seemed to fit our needs - small, but not too small and "yappy" and easy care, low grooming requirements. That's when Blossom entered the picture - and its all her fault we just LOVE dachshunds as much as we do and have continued to add to the family - she wrapped that long body around our hearts and we just couldn't imagine being without her or her four cohorts. We now have in addition to Blossom, our "Queen" black and tan smooth coat, two sisters Buttons and Zipper - also black and tan smooth coat tweenies, a big standard red boy Smokey and our "Princess of Quite a Lot" Snickerdoodle, or just Snickers to us, a mini red smooth coat spoiled rotten baby who isn't content unless she is in a lap - preferably mine.

I love my pet because...

Blossom is a big dog in a little package. I could never ask for more courage and bravery from a guard dog, love and affection from a lap dog, or loyalty than any other dog out there. She charms everyone that she comes into contact with - even "non dog-lovers" ( I can't even imagine why there is such thing!) She is the queen of our pack and holds court with grace - but without a collar - and she don't need no stinkin' crown either!

Great Books

These are great books on the Dachshund breed. I personally own the Dachshunds for Dummies (well I own a lot of Dummies books and I'm not sure what that says about me :-)) It had been a long time since I had owned a doxie - which really was my parents' dog - and wanted to make sure I had enough information to be effective in training and care. The love was easy, but I'm glad I had the resource in the book because there are unique attributes of the breed.

Silly youTube vids you might like

This commercial is what its like at my house. And at snack time..whew....with all five dachshunds racing for the snack box at once.... "STAMPEDE" Recently I was dog sitting for my friend's three dachshunds (yes, they are addicting and its contagious) so we had eight excited dogs in total for the weekend - wasn't much different than 200 oxen plowing through my family room.

P.S.

I would love to hear more about anyone else's doxie addiction - most folks I meet that have these dogs are just as passionate about them as I am. I do get a few raised eyebrows from stangers about the quantity of them, but they are pretty well set up here. I had one friend comment that when she dies she wants to come back as one of my dogs....what a life.
