Whisper Aloha and Make a Bracelet of Blessings

You will find that blessing is as simple as Whispering Aloha.

We are not helpless. There is always something that we can do. This lens suggests ways to empower yourself and others. Ways to promote peace and harmony. Ways to spread a little aloha around the world.

Many people use knotted cords, malas or rosaries to help them focus their prayers. In Hawaii, there is the word Haipule that means to hold prayers. If you take the word apart Hai means offering, sacrifice, to offer... Pule means prayer, magic spell, incantation, blessing, to pray, say grace, ask a blessing, cast a spell...

A form of Haipule that I was taught uses words, images, feelings and movement. The emphasis is on increasing sensory input to ones prayers or intentions.

After 911 my husband and I saw that the focus of people around us was on fear and we knew that this had to change.

At the same time we were exhibitors at a conference and were watching a mother and child in an obvious contest of wills. Their struggle was observed by a Hawaiian woman at the table next to ours. I watched this beautiful Kupuna whisper the word Aloha.

This touched my heart. We are all connected and there is always something we can do to help. So we started on the practice of whispering aloha.

A simple blessing that helps one to focus and put your attention in the direction of something positive.

Our healing work is child's play. We have been sharing the art of string figures with thousands of people in Hawaii. We saw a way of combining our work with this simple way of blessing.

We developed a bracelet made of a simple loop of rainbow string and taught the children how to make it while whispering aloha. "Aloha to the trees", "Aloha to my cat", "Aloha to my friend".

Children and adults re focused their thoughts and began whispering aloha. Fear changed into love.

Rainbow Strings Whisper Aloha With Every Knot

Knots and Knotted Cords

Malas, Rosaries, Beads and Bracelets are knotted cords too

The knot can have many meanings.

A knot can represent an intention or prayer and the release of the knot represents gratitude and the release of the prayer or the intention to the heavens. We make a bracelet of blessings whispering aloha with every knot we make or more simply you can just make knots in a string to represent your intentions.

The knot can also be a symbol of tension or of a constriction. The release of the knot symbolizes relaxation or the release of the constriction or problem. In old Hawaii there was a figure called hana ka uluna (prepare the pillow) This figure was made by a priest called to heal the sick. After a prayer a series of knots were made over the body of the patient and then pulled apart.

An adaptation made by me of The Dynamind Technique by Serge Kahili King called The Dynaknot uses the making of knots while focusing on a problem that you would like to see changed.

Make a knot or a series of knots and say: I have a problem and this can change I want this problem to go away and release the knot(s).

Doing this provides an incredible feeling of release.

You can then focus on what you want and make the Bracelet of Rainbow Blessings to hold your intent.

The Aloha Spirit (Little Pink Booklet)
Since it was first published in 1975 over 200,000 copies of The Little Pink Booklet of Aloha, under the name "The Aloha Spirit," have been distributed by Aloha International. It has already been translated into more than a dozen languages and can also be found on many websites around the world. In order to increase the distribution possibilities the name was recently changed. The new title is easier to translate into most languages, and over the years most people requesting a copy have asked for "The Little Pink Booklet."
The Dynamind Technique
Help Yourself with Dynamind explains an amazingly fast, simple and effective healing technique that has been used successfully for physical, emotional and mental problems in the United States and Europe since the year 2000. Although Certified Dynamind Practitioners have been trained in both areas to guide people in how to do it, most users are able to apply it from simple written or verbal instructions, and the range of applications is constantly increasing.

Hawaiian Nine Eyes or Pulelehua (Prayer Flower)

We call this pattern pulelehua. Pulelehua in Hawaiian is butterfly. If you break up the two words Pule is prayer and lehua is the beautiful red flower of the ohia tree. You can think of it in many ways: the prayer flower, the butterfly as a symbol of transformation or as the nine eyes in the sky representing the nine navigational stars.

String Meditation

First you need to learn how to make The Aloha String Figure that the Hawaiians call "nine eyes" and we like to call "pulelehua".

I will tell you when to make this pattern during the meditation.

There is no rule that you have to make this particular pattern. You can make anyone that you want.

We will also do a type of breathing called piko piko or center to center. First when you inhale, you will focus your attention at the top of your head and then when you exhale, focus your attention at your navel. Don't force or push the flow of breath just gently place your attention at your head and then your navel.
This is the breath of the dolphin who must consciously take each one of his breaths. (Lets practice that a few times.)

The meditation we are going to do now is a type of nalu or ocean wave. As the wave motion comes and goes you will gently rest your thoughts as they flow in and out of your awareness.

This is a nalu meditation for releasing
You can close your eyes if you wish
First do some piko piko breathing

I want you to use your imagination and gently rest your thoughts on all forms of releasing, emptying or clearing. There are many kinds of releasing, birds from cages, air from a balloon, blowing bubbles. Use your imagination to let go and release.

Let's do a few together:
Imagine that you are holding a bunch of brightly colored helium balloons. Now let them go and watch them float up into the sky.

Now fill a pail with sand and empty it onto the beach.

This time imagine writing something on a blackboard and then erasing it.

Now imagine that you are tying a knot. Untie and release that knot.

Continue now on your own, for a while.

Now make the string figure pattern and hold it in your hands. Keep holding it until I tell you to release it. Look at the pattern. There are nine diamond shapes, maka, eyes or the mesh of a net.

FUDS: Look into the pattern and put your Fears, Unhappiness, Doubts and Stress into the net. Now say after me, either to yourself or out loud. Somewhere in my body I have Fear, Unhappiness, Doubt and Stress and this can change. Instead I want Trust, Happiness/Love, Confidence and Relaxation to grow leaving me centered and open to new awareness and inspiration.

As in the Moloka'i tale. We are all a Calabash of Light. Whenever we have a fear, unhappiness, doubt or stress it is like dropping a stone into the calabash. Soon all of the stones displace the light. We have to remember to turn the calabash over and release all of the stones so that our light can be seen again.

Now do a piko piko breath then release the string figure pattern so that it becomes a simple loop of string once more. Return to this room energized for a day filled with new awareness and insight.

We have just used a string figure pattern in a meditation to help us focus, clear and center our thoughts.

Books That Have Inspired Me

Serge's books have been an inspiration to me. My favorite book is the Urban Shaman. It was the book that started me off on the Huna path. He has a way of making things simple. He put into words the way I was living my life. He made me aware of the Aloha Spirit and how I could help make this world a better place. His books have a way of falling off the shelf when you need them. I have all of his books and you can too. For his healing tools go to The Huna Store
