An Objective Opinion on Alpha Omega Homeschool Curriculum & AOP
To homeschool your children is a commitment that takes courage and a sense of adventure.
My husband and I made the complex decision to homeschool our kids after almost 2 years of deliberation. In the process of making this decision, I found that the "why" was not as hard as the "how."
So I spent months researching 36 different homeschooling curricula to consider for our personal use.
Alpha Omega homeschool curriculum is one of the curricula that I researched and I am offering you an objective opinion on (and review/overview of) the array of Alpha Omega Curricula and what is offered to parents and children.
After carefully looking over all of the factors, we found that the Alpha Omega Homeschool Curriculum and Alpha Omega Publications (AOP) provides one of the highest quality homeschooling curricula available. This company excels at supporting both parents/teachers and students and offers one of the most modern approaches to homeschooling that I found; all the while including Christian teachings in the lessons.
I know that deciding what curriculum to homeschool your children with is a personal and important decision. My goal is to present the information that I gathered during my research process and help you see if Alpha Omega Curriculum is right for you and your family.
*Please note that in my research I also found multiple coupons available for Alpha Omega products. I have included them where I felt they were most appropriate. My mother always said "never pay full price if you don't have to!"

LIFEPAC - Alpha Omega Homeschool Curriculum
Learning Individually For Excellence Promotes Academic Confidence
LIFEPACLIFEPAC uses full-color workbooks/textbooks and there are ten LIFEPACs per year, per subject. This program basically divides one hard bound book into ten smaller books making it simple for little hands to work with. Children receive a new workbook every three to four weeks (general length of unit).
To build "spiritual maturity and reinforce the biblical worldview," LIFEPAC incorporates Bible truths into the content.
The content of each worktext includes lessons, activities, review questions, and written tests. LIFEPAC has built-in tools such as diagnostic tests, self-tests, and teacher checkpoints, to help parents/teachers keep students on track with their learning.
It is recommended that a student spend 45 minutes per subject per day with this curriculum.
LIFEPAC Language Arts incorporates grammar, spelling, and writing in one easy-to-follow format. It includes cursive handwriting and teaches the Ball and Stick method of printing.
A boxed set includes a Teacher's Guide, ten LIFEPACs, and any required readers needed to complete one year of a subject. It is possible to purchase a complete LIFEPAC set that contains Teacher's Guides, LIFEPACS, and required reading for each of the core subjects. LIFEPACs may be purchased on an individual basis as well.
Opinion: A LIFEPAC is a fantastic homeschooling curriculum that is consistent from Kindergarten to 12th grade. The mastery learning approach is easy for almost all children. The electives offered will help mold intelligent, successful, well-rounded adults. The tracking and support that is offered to both the students and the parents is quite possibly the best available on the homeschool market.

Horizons
Alpha Omega Homeschooling Curriculum
HorizonsHorizons is a workbook-based curriculum and the lessons are brightly illustrated to extend the child's attention span. Hands-on learning is included in every lesson through the use of manipulatives suggested in the teacher's guide.
Horizons is a fairly fast-paced curriculum and is extremely popular with all of the parents I spoke with. It is ideal for the child who can multitask.
Parents at all levels in this curriculum have told me that this learning method is so smooth and so well-designed that students learn difficult concepts more quickly than they did with other programs.
Horizons
Opinion: B+ Horizons is great for children who enjoy hands-on learning and who learn easier when concepts are consistently reinforced. I feel that Horizons does an excellent job teaching the subjects that it covers, but I would have liked to see more subjects offered. Horizons must be supplemented by LIFEPAC, Weaver, or another curriculum to get the Science, History/Geography, and Bible.

AOP states that "this flexible, colorful, preschool program complements and builds an introduction to other best-selling Horizons products. With Horizons Preschool
I have to agree with them. This curriculum is impressive and easy to administer. It come with student books, teacher guides, resource packet and a recommended multimedia set.
It is particularly helpful that each student book has colorful perforated pages that the students can write on.

Switched-On Schoolhouse
Alpha Omega Complete Homeschool Curriculum
Switched-On Schoolhouse 2007Switched-On Schoolhouse (SOS) is a comprehensive, Biblically-based curriculum that offers computer-based learning for grades 3-12. SOS provides an interactive learning environment with 3-D animation, video clips, and other fascinating multimedia.
SOS includes automatic grading, record keeping, and lesson planning with the click of a mouse, allowing teachers more time with their students.
Switched-On Schoolhouse is written on the principle of "mastery learning." This means that students truly master the content and skills of one unit before progressing to the next. [SOS is based off of LIFEPAC and goes well beyond LIFEPAC curriculum in what it offers students and parents both educationally and administratively.]
Students finish lessons by completing various questions, activities, and quizzes, all through a CD-Rom program. One of the best features is that most (between 80-90%) of the grading is done automatically so teachers only have to grade subjective questions.
Switched-On Schoolhouse 2007
Opinion: A+ The Next Generation of Homeschool Curriculum! Fun and engaging for the students, easy on the parents, Switched-On Schoolhouse is the heads and shoulders above the competition for Christian homeschool education. With the award-winning curriculum set in the modern approach of computer based learning (no textbooks necessary) and the highly skilled technical support team, I am not sure that there is a better homeschool curriculum out there.

- Great lens! Our oldest just graduated from Alpha Omega Academy! We homeschooled using Alpha Omega for eleven years, then transferred to the Academy. The Academy is accredited and offers a high school diploma which is so important for college acceptance in some states.
