Amador County boast so very much to do!

Judged one of the best destination areas in California, Amador County boasts so much to do. From water skiing on Comanche reservoir, to a quick kayak paddle down the Electra run of the Mokulmne River. Camping and hiking in the upcountry, snow sports at Kirkwood. Maybe a day enjoying the excitement at the Jackson Ranchoria Casino or a beautiful trip through the Shenandoah Valley, home to over 29 wonderful wineries fits your style. My favorite is Vino Nicetto, with the fifteen-foot fiberglass wiener dog head out back and just the best Italian style wines. Perhaps hunting for treasures in all of the picturesque antique shops and specialty stores sprinkled up and down each town's quaint little main street, like The Celtic Knot (Jackson), a superb Irish/Scottish import shop, would be more your thing. Evenings can be spiced up with a meal at one of the fine restaurants in each town and s show at the Volcano Theater or the Kennedy Mine both of which produce great live shows in fantastic outdoor amphitheaters.

Black Cham Cavern

Amazing geology and a story that only Amador County could produce.

Lost and found. This underground wonder of nature was once a site worth visiting for entertainment starved miners, then capped off and forgotten to be rediscovered years latter and reopened for you to view. The history is just one small piece of what makes this cave system so intriguing. The helicite crystals, unusual formations reminiscent of corral, found here and almost nowhere else were worth the gold that the miners used to pay to visit, and they are worth a visit now! Come check us out on a day trip through the gold country. Guided tours, gemstone mining, gold panning, geode cracking, and a great visitor's shop are just a few of the reasons to visit. caverntours.com

Vino Nicceto open house & Sutter creek home tour sponsered by AAUW.

This Saturday was one busy day of fun in the foothills!

This Saturday Amador County vintners, Vino Nicceto had their annual open house. Each year this event gets better and better. This year, even with the misty spring dew that fell cooling the end of the event, the band rocked, the delicious gourmet snacks were served, and the wine pored. As usual everyone had a great time visiting with friends, both old and new. Many of the folks in attendance were earlier busy touring Sutter Creek's historical homes with the Amador County Chapter of the American Association of University Women. This year marks the AAUW's 35th year of tours in the area, this is a unique opportunity to visit and view homes and buildings that encompass the history of the area. This year one high point was the Knight Foundry, The country's oldest water powered foundry and machine shop. What a story this place has. The knight Foundry cast many of the tools and machine parts that were used in the Gold Rush, and a chance to visit and learn about this treasure should not be missed.
