The crew at Germany's Motorrad magazine chronicled their 32,000 mile test of the Buell Lightning XB12S in their November 24, 2006 issue. Although they did refer to the Lightning as, "finicky like Primadonnas," they go on to say that the bike was still in prime condition after 32,000 miles. Motorrad's detailed evaluation noted every maintenance issue, every broken part, and even disassembled the engine to measure and examine wear. They were impressed that the Buell's American V-twin (a modified Harley Davidson engine) held up to their abuse as well as any refined high performance engine. Buell was listening during the test period too. Buell Motorcycle company continued to improve the Lightning, addressing any concerns the arose during the test and improving their design. Motorrad even noted the the engine was still producing about 100 horsepower after 32,000 miles of abuse.
