Anancy: The Spider-Man
Anancy is a cultural hero in the Caribbean. His stories were brought over from the West Coast of Africa during the Middle Passage. His stories have been told and retold for generations and have been a source of folk wisdom.
What is Anancy
Anancy is primarily a Trickster in West African (Akan) folklore.
Two aspects to Tricksters:
Positive Trickster who uses his skills to trick the Dragon and gain the bounty for the tribe.
Negative (Shadow) Trickster who only thinks for himself--me and mine.
Anancy overcomes the Dragon--any seeming situation/obstacle that would make us see ourselves as small, weak or powerless--that could potentially overcome us. Anancy teaches us that we are bigger than any situation. But we have to use our intelligence--wits.

Grandpa Sydney's Anancy Stories by Geoffrey Philp
Jimmy Harrison loves school and his favorite subject is snack time! But when a new boy, Kevin, joins his class, he begins to bully Jimmy and the rest of the children. What's worse, he begins to take away Jimmy's snacks. Using the wisdom from his Grandpa Sydney's story about "Anancy, Snake, and Tiger," Jimmy overcomes the class bully. And for one Sunday, he reunites his family for dinner.
