Andre Rieu is an exceptional violinist and conductor.
He was born on October 1, 1949 in the city of Maastricht in Holland (The Netherlands).
Started playing the violin when he was five.
Married. Wife's name is Marjorie, who also composes music. They have two sons, Marc and Pierre.
His Johann Strauss Orchestra created in 1987 with twelve members. Now has between forty and fifty.

The wonderful world of great music from Andre Rieu.
At the time the Johann Strauss Orchestra first toured Europe, there emerged a renewed interest in waltz music.This revival was initially mostly in The Netherlands and was ignited by their recording of the "Second Waltz" from Shostakovich's Jazz Suites. As a result, Rieu became known as "The King Of Waltz".
Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra have performed throughout Europe, in North America, and Japan. They have won a number of awards including two World Music Awards and have recordings that have gone Gold and Platinum in many countries around the world, including 8-times Platinum in the Netherlands.
In September 2007 Rieu performed in Australia for the first time (solo, without his Orchestra) at the Eastland shopping centre in the Melbourne suburb of Ringwood - playing My Way and Waltzing Matilda - and the next day at Sydney's ARENA COVE, Warringah Mall shopping complex with the same set.
Rieu and the Orchestra plan to return to Australia in November & December 2008 for a full Concert tour.
He records both DVD & CD repertoire at his own recording studios in Maastricht - a wide range of classical music as well as popular and folk music plus music from famous motion picture sound tracks and theatre musicals.
His lively and colourful orchestral presentations have attracted worldwide audiences to classical music that may not initially have been drawn to that genre.
Rieu has worked together with his brother, Jean Philippe, for several years, but Jean Philippe has now started his own production company. Rieu has two sons; of which the youngest Pierre, now works with him full time as his Production Manager.
André Rieu ownes two Stradivarius violins.
Some of his orchestra's performances have been broadcast in the United Kingdom and the United States on the PBS television network such as the 2003 airing of Andre Rieu Live in Dublin, filmed in Dublin, Ireland. In 2005 André Rieu's 'Live in Tuscany' filmed in the Piazza Della Republica in the village of Cortona in Tuscany.

According to Wikipedia, Carmen Monarcha's mother was a singer in Norther Brazil. Maybe musical talent is somewhat related to genes. It seems that many musicians or actors all have musicians or actors as parents. I wonder if it is genetic or if it is just influence from the parents. This is a very interesting question. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Do you think that musical talent is genetic somehow or that musical talent is not genetic?

- Andre is the greatest. I have introduced his DVD's to many friends,
I have found, he makes a big difference in people who are ill. One person who was extremely ill, watches his DVD;s every day, and has improved, to where she can help herself a lot. I am very happy I could introduce her to Andre.Ge has helped her a lot.

- I have followed the evolution of the Strauss Orkest since 1997 when I attended his first North American tour in Montreal. I have gone at least once a year since then, in the Northeast, and was at the New York special in 2006 and the start of the World Tour with the palace in Toronto this past December. Some of the orchestra members have been with him since the beginning and we have watched them get married, have children, etc. In Toronto we stayed in the same hotel and as there was a blizzard, we managed to spend a lot of time talking to orchestra members. They are very friendly. Mirusia, Carmen and Carla are so tiny in person you wonder where that sound comes from. Suzan is average size but she too has a powerful voice. Unfortunately, they are branching out and are not always with him any more, but he will come up with something. I believe they have agreed to all appear at the World Tour concerts throughout the year. It's worth going just to see the set.
