Every Reason to GO GREEN

We have an environment worth saving

It's not cliche'. This pristine mountain valley we call home is a vast array of fragile eco-systems. From the Cienguilla Creek to the wetlands to what we do with "slash" that comes from the clearing of overgrown acreage. I'm applauding the Village of Angel Fire for the soon to arrive chipper. Converting the slash to wood chips is a HUGE improvement over the wasteful and air choking burning of the wood. Yes, it's expensive...but it is most definitely the right thing to do. Protecting the environment and finding ways to minimize our footprint is key to our success as a community. As we raise the bar for a responsible resort community, we will raise our profile as a destination worth visiting.

We're making good progress with recycling but we can do more. I'd love to see us pursue funding for a glass crusher. Glass can be used for everything from art to landscaping to home applications (countertops) and even in roadbeds. When I make the quarterly trip to Taos with my car loaded with glass I wonder how much fuel and exhaust could be saved, how many of us are making weekly, monthly or more trips to the Taos Recycling Center. What does that add up to? I'll bet, alot.

Hello Katherine,
I, too, live in a small town and for the last 18 years have organized a local artist studio tour (Three Rivers, CA.) I just recently joined Squidoo with a new project called Adopt a Plant. I have made a lens for New Mexico, one of 50 all the states, as well as an Adopt a Plant lens inviting artists to participate with their botanical art. The main lens is called Adopt a Plant, hope you will visit it and tell your artists' community in New Mexico about it.

Thanks, Mayor Billie! We should add an Eagle Nest Lens! I'd do it, but I'm a bit overloaded...maybe someone there can do and I can help! I'd be delighted! The more, the merrier, in this case!
