Thinking about adding Angelfish to your tropical fish tank?

Pterophyllum is the scientific name for what the breeders know as the Angelfish. It is a relatively small fish originally spotted in the Amazon, Orinoco or Essequibo Rivers. This fish species is part of the Cichlidae family.

The body is round and the dorsal and anal fins are long. This allows them to hide among roots and plants. Also the coloration helps them with the camouflage.

The Angelfish is quite the predator because he likes to eat live bait like macro invertebrates or other small fish. This fish usually prefers to swim in waters with a temperature of 72 degrees Fahrenheit. They make an exception when the breeding season starts. At that time, they need water with a temperature between 77 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, when the breeding starts, you will hear some strange noise. Don't worry. The Angelfish has bones located in the throat area and those make a sound.

If you have an Angelfish, also remember to maintain the pH level at 7.
Besides this, the Angelfish likes to have many floating plants in the aquarium because he likes dim light and hiding between the leaves. If they don't have vegetation in the tank, they can't hide and this creates them stress. They also like big tanks where they can swim freely.
