One of the most beautiful beaches on all of Anguilla has to be Rendezvous Bay. A perfect 2 mile long crescent of brilliant white sand lapped by crystal clear Caribbean water. As you walk along the beach, past the Cuisinart Resort you'll notice a small white fishing boat with a thatched roof. That's The Dune Preserve, one of the most popular music spots on Anguilla.
You won't want to miss this beach bar. It's multiple platforms intertwined with driftwood and fishing boats. You'll notice in the bar area a couch and if you're lucky you'll find Bankie Banx himself on the couch. You'll be even luckier if you are able to catch him play his live music at night.
Bankie first built The Dune Preserve in 1994. His reputation on the island has grown over the years and his annual Moonsplash Music Festival draws thousands to the island every year during the first full moon in March.
For Moonsplash 2007 Jimmy Buffett was a huge draw with thousands visiting the island and dozens of boats anchored out in the bay to listen and party. A few of the other musical guests for past Moonsplash Music Festivals have been Rita Marley, The Wailers, Richie Havens, Junior Jazz and the Bacon Brothers and Freddie McGregor.
A lot of work went into The Dune Preserve in order to host Jimmy Buffett for Moonsplash 2007. It was enlarged to hold 4,000 people, almost twice the original size. There was new landscaping, a new deck and covered bar area. A new back stage area was created as was a new stage.
I was amazed when I saw how large it was on my visit there in June. The last time I'd been at The Dune Preserve was 2003. My husband and I were staying next door at the Cuisinart so we stopped into The Dune to have lunch. I was more amazed when I saw pictures of how many people were on Rendezvous Bay for the concert.
