Aphex Twin, british electronic music artist
Music was my first love and it will be my last, music of the future and music of the past.
I have always loved music, music of all kinds....well almost. My love and appreciation of music spans many genres from classical to Tribal, and many generations, every era has something valuable. I do prefer slightly less mainstream music, some would probably say it's not music at all. I would say that my most favourite types of music are electronic, trance, drum and bass, dub, something you can dance too and appreciate. This lens is dedicated to one of my favourite artists, someone who has been in the top 10 of my music collection for many years, this lens is has been created on Richard D James aka "Aphex Twin".Contents at a Glance

Electronic Genius
Richard D James
Richard D James aka, Aphex Twin, British electronic artist, musician, singer, DJ, songwriter, producer..... master. Some people may find him hard to listen to but if you can see the talent behind creating the patterns then like it or not he is good at what he does. I have loved his music since I was young and have followed him and grown with his music, as his music has grown with me. He is one artist which has inspired me to write my own music in my spare time, I can only wish to be as talented and creative as he is.
You can feel influences from many genres in his music , although he tries to stay away from conventional sounds to create his own unique type of music. Always said to have at least 100 hours of his own music on his hard drive, he has released many albums under many different names. Aphex Twin, AFX, Polygon Window and Caustic Window are but a few. A master in his art and a standalone figure in breaking the boundaries in what is considered normal and acceptable.
Richard owns a disused bank in London which he has recorded one of his albums in, (26 mixes for cash), and also owns a Daimler Ferret Mark 3 tank which he drives in Wales and Cornwall, UK. Have a look at some of my favourite tunes he has done and judge for yourself, you may have even heard some before as companies have started using his work in their adverts.
St Michaels Mount
Aphex Twin + Chris Cunningham
The song is called St Michaels Mount and is from the Drukqs album. The video Monkey Drummer was created by Chris Cunningham who has also directed many other videos for Aphex Twin as well as Autechre, Leftfield and Bjork. The drummer is actually Sigtryggur Baldursson, a member of an Icelandic rock band called The Sugarcubes. He was shot multiple times in different positions with his torso being chopped off in production and replaced with a mechanical one.
The inspiration for the video came from the wind-up mechanical monkeys of the past century, thus called Monkey Drummer.
Come to Daddy
Aphex Twin
Come to Daddy, pappy mix recorded in 1997 for the album of the same name. This has to be one of my all time favourite tunes, from the disturbing vocals of "I want your soul, I will eat your soul" to the cleverly effected vocals, this tune has a dark undertone filled with precise yet chaotic beats. The video (released in October 1997) is amazing and fits the song perfectly, Chris Cunningham (director) has worked on several of his songs before, they seem to have an understanding of each other. It was filmed around Tavy Bridge Shopping centre, Thamesmead which was the same council estate where Stanley Kubrick shot many scenes from The Clockwork Orange..

On
Aphex Twin
"On" is a magnificent piece, club friendly but still maintaining his own unique sound. Recorded in 1994 this was a hugely popular tune and is still viewed as one of his best works. It was also his first major release in the U.S. The video directed by Jarvis Cocker of the hit band Pulp, uses stop animation filming which gives a mechanical feel and suits the music well.

Window Licker
Aphex Twin
The video was directed by Chris Cunningham, who also directed the infamous music video of Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy" in 1997.
The promo was nominated for the Best Video award at the BRIT Awards 2000, alongside videos by Supergrass, The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, and eventual winner Robbie Williams.
The full "Windowlicker" video is restricted to being broadcast only during the nighttime on most music television channels. A bleeped-out version of the video exists, and MTV Two even made a daytime version, with all the opening dialogue removed (the censored version starts with the arrival of the limousine) and some of the video's more shocking images are also removed. In 2008, MTV Networks Europe was fined by media regulator Ofcom for several breaches of its broadcasting code, including airing the uncensored version of the "Windowlicker" video before the 9PM watershed.

Jynweythek
Aphex Twin
Jynweythek which is written in the Cornish Language means Electronic Machine, and is from the Drukqs album released in 2001 as a double album. This song was featured in Sofia Coppola's 2006 film Marie Antoinette.
Avril 14th
Aphex Twin
This was from the album drukQs and is one of the prepared piano pieces. The instrument used was a MIDI-controlled Yamaha Disklavier that he programmed to play by sequencers rather than from the piano's keyboard. For some pieces, he actually placed microphones inside the piano body, so that the working of the instruments mechanisms are heard with the sounds of the notes, this acts as a rhythmic counterpoint. "Avril 14th" was featured in Sofia Coppola's 2006 film Marie Antoinette.
