Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 17, 2008 -- Just days prior to his debut in the brand new Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion, Affliction, UFC Former Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski and his Team Pitbull are pleased to announce the re-launch of Andrei Arlovski's official web site, www.arlovski.com.

The new arlovski.com social network includes a forum where fans of the rapidly growing sport of MMA can gather and discuss Arlovski's career, news and information about the sport or any other topic that interests his demographic.

Andrei Arlovski will likely sign with Affliction's upstart MMA promotion as soon as May 19th, according to SI.com.
From the report:
May 19 is the day when Andrei Arlovski could sign with Affliction, SI.com has learned. That is, assuming the UFC declines to match what is believed to be a deal that pays the former UFC champion in the low-to-mid six figures for the first of three non-exclusive bouts.

A representative from Arlovski's camp explained there was "nothing to report," though continued on to say negotiations with the UFC were ongoing.

UFC President Dana White recently told Yahoo! Sports that, while he hoped to retain Arlovski, there was doubt as to whether that would actually happen.

Should Arlovski and Affliction complete their deal, the Belarusian is expected to appear at next Tuesday's press conference at the in Century City, Calif., to announce a fight against former International Fight League heavyweight champion Ben Rothwell.

Arlovski appears Saturday at Chicago fund-raiser

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski is joining some fellow pit bulls this weekend for a public appearance and fund-raiser in Chicago.

The event, "Party for the Pits," takes place this coming Saturday, May 3, at the Midtown Kitchen Bar in Chicago from 7-11 p.m.

The event benefits the Rags 2 Wags Pit Bull Rescue, a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that facilitates the rescue and adoption of homeless dogs identified as American pit bull terriers and American Staffordshire terriers.

A $10 cover charge gets you into the event, where there's a complimentary buffet, a DJ, silent auction, raffle and meet-and-greet with the pit bulls (both human and K-9).

Arlovski, a Chicago-based fighter who reigned as the UFC's heavyweight title-holder from February 2005 to April 2006, last fought at UFC 82 in March. There, he posted a victory over the previously undefeated Jake O'Brien. The bout fulfilled Arlovski's fight commitment from his previous UFC contract, essentially making him a free agent.

Arlovski's now rumored to be negotiating with a number of fight promotions, including the UFC.

R1: O'Brien shoots a couple of times early on for the takedown but Arlovski defends well. The fighters stand for a moment before O'Brien shoots again and after an exchange, Arlovski concedes the takedown. O'Brien works from the top and Arlovski works to tie up from the bottom and lands an elbow that opens up a cut on O'Brien as the round closes.

R2: O'Brien again tries to open the round with takedown after takedown but Arlovski's sprawl is up to the task of defending. O'Brien works again for a single leg takedown and is able to finish with an ankle pick to get the fight back down on the ground. Arlovski ties up O'Brien's arms and Jake tries to push him towards the cage. O'Brien clinches and ends up with Arlovski mounted on him. Arlovski opens up his attack and the referee is forced to stop the fight.

The event will be at CHASERS BAR & GRILL (9003 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Niles, IL). There will be a $10 charity event donation at the door. All proceeds at the door go to help young Kelly Hurlock and her family while she fights Chron's disease. CHASERS is only about 15 minutes from the city and has plenty of parking.
