Holy Crap! You must be kidding!
Arrested Development fans have been mistreated, but our karma is finally starting to even out. After somebody had the gall to cancel the best comedy on TV, they've finally decided to make a full-length movie. Read below for all the awesome details-- so far, nothing I've read about the project has been a disappointment.

The Hard Facts
- Announced in February 2008
- Release year set for 2009; no specific date yet.
- Production team is aiming for all-original cast from the show, and they've secured most of the family for production.
- Confirmed cast includes David Cross (Tobias), Alia Shawkat (Maeby), Jeffrey Tambor (George Sr./Oscar), Tony Hale (Buster), Jessica Walter (Lucille I), and Justin Lee (Annyong).
- The remaining family members (Michael, Gob, George Michael, and Lindsay) are "rumored" to be on board. (Rumor from IMDB).
- According to the news blurb on MSNBC, Jason Bateman himself pitched the project to Hurwitz, so from some sources, he and the other "rumored" participants are actually the leaders here.
- Screenplay was written by Mitchell Hurwitz, the original creator of the show. That might be the best news of all.
- Ron Howard is confirmed to be the executive producer and the narrator for the film. Second best news, methinks.

Analysis
What can we assume?
- The movie will go to theaters. There's no reason to believe they'd pull together a full movie team to make a simple extended episode for DVD release. This baby's hitting the silver screen.
- The whole original cast will be involved. Besides the news you just watched on YouTube, there's plenty of sources saying that everybody's on board. Besides, if you were an original cast member, wouldn't you be dying to make this movie?
- It will feel like watching a triple-length episode. With the same writer, director, executive producer, and narrator, this is going to have the same feel as the show we love so much.
- George Michael and Maeby will make out again. I think we all know this is inevitable. Maybe they'll make out just to teach us a lesson.
The Possibilities
- The action will probably take place a couple of years after the conclusion of the show. The younger stars have had some time to age now, and nobody's going to buy that Michael Cera is still a freshman in high school.
- I'm betting it will be released in the summer of '09, when the show's biggest fans (college level) will be going to movies the most. Early summer seems to be the time that most big-name comedies are released.
- It will beat the crap out of other series-to-movie releases. I'm looking at YOU, Stewie Movie. Ron Howard has enough movie experience never to let that kind of thing happen.
- Lindsay's tree-hugging suitor from season 1, Johnny Bark, will make a comeback. You can bet your opening-night ticket on it.
Got your doubts?
Maybe you think this movie isn't going to happen. Here's why I think you're wrong.First, the talks are solid-- there's recorded video and audio of Jason Bateman and Jeffrey Tambor speaking very optimistically about this project. All of them have said that once the writer's strike is over (which it now is), the project would move forward.
Second, it's in high demand. More people watch the show (and are addicted) now than when it was on the air. Studio execs know this, and they know how vocal the fans are. One teaser-trailer for this movie, and the whole nation will be shrieking, ankle-biting, and looting in a panicked and gleeful frenzy.
Third, the cast loved doing the show, and it sounds like most of them want to be back on board for the movie. Scouring IMDB, I've determined that most of the cast isn't too busy and could be involved in the movie. The only person who seems to be very busy is Will Arnett/Gob, who is running through movies like a banana grabber.
And lastly, the show itself predicted its own movie incarnation, which is like a scriptural prophecy of some kind, I'm sure. In the very last scene of the last episode, Ron Howard sits across from Maeby in his office to discuss the rights to a TV show based on her story. "I don't see it working as a series--" said Ron, "maybe a MOVIE." (He said that last part with a wink.)
Done and done. This movie is going to be awesome.

I think this cast & crew actually has the dedication and good sense to pull off a movie conversion. If for some horrible reason the movie deal falls through, I'll settle for a collectors edition box set with commentary on more than 9 episodes.

The movie will be hilarious! I cannot wait ! People claim to have sense of humors, pretend to be sophisticated but face it they just are not ready for such humor wrapped in perpetual state of adolescencent remarks which makes them pay attention & actually connect with something. Society & ^certain medias^ are creating small minded lazy people who want things handed to them & spelled out for them!I can only hope people will prove to have a deeper level of humor than just for animated films! Oh but yes I believe the movie will be a great experiment .. I mean family first, it will be a fun sexy time for all!

If they capture half of the magic of the TV show they have an Oscar contender, the MUST SEE film of the year, and a massive audience ready to split their sides laughing.
With such an exceptional talent of cast, crew and writers, it is ridiculous to not re-unite these people as soon as possible. Hopefully Hollywood will make it happen.

Oh no! A naysayer at last! (but thanks for the compliment)
I'm hoping that (1) the rumors are pointing in the right direction, even if everything IMDB says isn't completely accurate, and (2) the buzz that's surging across the internet will convince all invested parties to keep plugging away.
Fingers crossed and blogs a-rolling, Development fans!
