Art for Toddlers

I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. Hand me a pencil and a scrap of paper and I begin to doodle. It is like second nature to me to want to create art. When my son was born I began drawing for him.

When Colton was starting to walk, my husband and I were renting a house. The home had two small bedrooms. Colton's room had a very large window. My father decided it could be dangerous for him, so he brought over a very large piece of sheet rock to cover the window with. Colton loved to jump on the bed which was next to this window.

The sheet rock looked rather odd covering the window, so I grabbed a pencil and started drawing. At the time, there were two things that truly interested Colton, Bible Stories and cartoons. I created a small mural on this large piece of sheet rock. The mural was the original Landing Party. The picture is a large ark with cartoon animals having a party below a heart shaped cloud. There are animals taking a ride in a hot air balloon. I can't show or sell this piece because I didn't create the characters and they are copyright protected; therefore, this piece is not for sale in any form.

Because so many people who saw the piece liked it, I created a similar, smaller one which I titled The Landing Party II. This piece has my characters in it. The original hangs in the nursery at my church. You can view a print of it below:

When I illustrate a Bible Story or Nursery Rhyme, I am attempting to give the child a picture shot that summarizes main points. I hope that when they see the picture the story will come to life for them. When you can picture in your mind what has taken place, it is easier to relate and remember the story.

If you want to make notes in side in your handwriting, I suggest you use permanent markers. You can place stickers, ticket stubs, and programs from all the places you visit with your child inside. Also, please try to record your child's voice often, their beautiful voices change often and you will cherish being able to hear how they used to sound.
