Arthur C. Clarke - Novelist, Futurist, Inspirationist, 1918-2008
Arthur C. Clarke wrote many inspirational and fantastic science fiction novels and stories--among the most famous being "2001: A Space Odyssey", "Childhood's End", "The Nine Billion Names of God", "Rendezvous with Rama", "A Fall of Moondust", "The Hammer of God", "Prelude to Space", "The Sands of Mars", and "The Fountains of Paradise".
Little did I know when I first read Arthur C. Clarke's novel "2001: A Space Odyssey" and when I later watched the movie while in high school, that I'd someday be walking in the "mock-up" of the Space Station and the Gravitational Biology Facility (GBF) module as part of my "job". Totally cool. Arthur C. Clarke and his imagination and inspiration will be greatly missed.
But you can still read his many works--and you can find them here!

Arthur C. Clark's Vision - Inspiring Satellites, Space Travel, and New Worlds
Some say that Arthur C. Clark's vision was what inspired satellites (in all their forms) and space travel from the modern perspective. Whatever the case, when the movie based on his book, "2001: A Space Odyssey" made it to the big screen, the imagery presented blew audiences away. The concepts were high-level, but the story got people to think about where our future was going.

I started reading science fiction when I was still in junior high school, and started collecting science fiction novels including Arthur C. Clarke along with Isaac Asimov, Ben Bova, and Andre Norton--to name a few.
Perhaps it was reading all of these great science fiction stories that inspired me to become a science major (biology/chemistry) in college. And perhaps they also inspired me to work with NASA for the International Space Station Project's Gravitational Biology Facility group as a writer-editor.

Arthur C. Clarke, the Visionary for Space
Arthur C. Clarke's stories provided in-depth views of the relationships of mankind and the mysteries of space. Satellites, interplanetary space flight, and the issues, dangers, and mysteries of that hostile environment were beautifully illustrated in his writing. HAL - The BAD Computer... The sentient and increasingly malevolent HAL 9000 from '2001: A Space Odyssey' is a cultural icon and its glowing red eye and emotionless voice can still send a shiver up your spine.

In this Kubrick movie (1968) there is a battle between the space ship computer and the astronauts. Here Dave is turning-off the "rebellion" machine. I only have this French audio version. Someone have the English audio?

- I have read many of Arthur C. Clarke's stories; A Fall of Moondust, 2001, 2010, 2061, and the Rama series, and others. He was a visionary, foreseeing in the late 1940s a series of geostationary communications satellites -- science fact in the late 20th century.
