Old Siam Style

Since 1949 it has been known as Thailand, but the country's previous name, Siam, still has a special feel to it. We continue to speak of "old Siam" in relation Thai antiques and vintage Thai collectibles, probably because it sounds so much more romantic. (And perhaps because we wish we'd been invited for tea by one of the famous authors who stayed at Bangkok's luxurious Oriental Hotel!)
Old Siam collectibles have not yet shot up in price the way many other Asian collectibles have, so it is still possible to add a touch of Old Siam Style to your home. For example, you can frame vintage Thai temple rubbings, old Siam maps, or vintage travel posters. Or consider antique Siam wooden boxes or silver bowls for a nice accent. A nice selection of vintage Siam collectibles is available at Vintage Siam.

The Colors of India: Rajasthan
Throughout India bright colors are an integral part of the landscape: in the home, in the temple, on signs, and in fashion. The colors of Rajasthan are particularly bright, probably because they stand in stark contrast to the muted shades of the Rajasthani desert.
