How I Attracted More Business

When I started my home-party business years ago I was reluctant because I didn't know anything about marketing. I was working a full time job as a Financial Coordinator with an office of four dentists, 10 hygienists and 20 or so support staff. I had a JOB and was looking for an easy, fun way to earn extra money. A friend introduced me to her business and we took off from there. Below are some of the frustrations that came out of that experience along with others from friends and business owners we have spoken with.

If you are thinking of starting a business or are in the process now, please be aware of these issues so you will be better prepared to address them if they should happen to you.

Title: Whether your called an Independant Consultant, Independant Owner, Francise Coordinator, etc. This is not YOUR business, it is the company that you have contracted with. Do not be fooled into believing that you OWN a business in this manner. If you have to buy products to sell, that may be the only thing that you actually own. A business owner controls all matters within the company. With any mlm or affiliate program you do not.

Marketing: Most, again I say, most mlm or affiliate company's utilize very similar marketing methods which are rapidly becoming obsolete. They usually provide a website, pamplets, business materials, cards that every other member is using. What's the problem with this? Well, the website is the biggest issue here. Most search engines will not place a website in high ranking if it is utilized by many others! They like uniqueness on the internet because it gives their members options. Company's that use websites will almost never allow you to change any aspect with your site either, so you have the same "cookie cutter" site as everyone else in the company. I know of at least one person who was "fired" from her mlm because she placed her website link on her own information website. She lost all her contacts, income and even her residual income because of doing this. It is imperrative that you read through your Policy & Proceedure page and ask questions first!

Cost vs. Income: You may have already guessed, but I don't host home-parties anymore! It just wasn't for me even though I enjoyed having friends and guests over, meeting new people and showing products that I like. At the end of the year my first year, I had spent three times as much hosting parties as I ever did earning an income. When I called my upline manager and spoke to her about this, I still heard the same old, tired encouragement: go back through your list, send out a blanket email withthe new products we have, send the kids out with flyers. My friend and I had had enough!

I'm not sure if being a Financial Coordinator had anything to do with it, or if it was just good ol' common sense, but we decided this was NOT a sound business to continue in. I know there are plenty of people that do very well in home party, mlm or affiliate businesses and I actually utilize a few myself, but most people do not make the income needed to continue. My mlm businesses happen to be things that I am passionate about and they do fairly well but really owning your own business and finding the right tools can be the most wonderful thing that happens to you.

In this day and age where we are doing business around the globe, we also need to be aware that we are still dealing with other people! You don't have the face to face contact and handshake to offer and this has created a feeling of apprehension and intolerance within many online business owners. Social networking has washed over into the business arena and many professionals are utilizing the internet to attract like-minded professionals to them! This model of "Attraction Marketing" has given business owners the tools to create the virtual handshake by introducing themselves to others instead of chasing prospects and buyers. It works wonders if you can re-program yourself to think a different way.

I wanted to find a different way of attracting more business than what I had been told to do by my mlm upline. I saw what was happening to others buying business leads, making endless phone calls, spending tons on advertising and getting almost nothing in return!
