An authentic LV handbag is an investment in quality that will last for years to come. I have personally researched dozens of "knock offs" on canal street in NY, and you do not want a cheap bag. You will be unhappy in a few days. I know friends who have purchased 5 or more knockoffs when they could have spent the money and purchased one authentic handbag. Why waste your money on fakes? I have compiled a list of important items to look for when purchasing a Louis Vuitton handbag. Do you know what item you want to purchase? Let's say you want to purchase the Speedy 25. Write down those details from the store or copy and save the bookmark from www.louisvuitton.com/ You will use this information when you purchase your bag through ebay or anywhere else. Spend time with those details. Write down the measurements of the bag. The Speedy 25 measures 9.8" x 7.5" x 5.9". You would be surprised when a seller on ebay does not have the proper listing name or forgets some of the details. This could also be used to your advantage. An ebay listing may call the Speedy 25, Speedy 250, Spedy 25, or even just Speedy. If you think the bag is authentic and the listing is misspelled, you could win a great deal.

Since you can't physically touch the bag, you need to ask some detailed questions of the seller. Don't automatically trust the listing is authentic. Ask questions and check feedback. Some pictures are copied from LV or other websites and the seller might now even have possession of a bag.
-Ask for more pictures. Even if the seller has 30 pictures of the bag, ask for another picture. Tell them you want to see how it hangs from their shoulder. Anything that would help authenticate the bag. If they send you a picture of Jennifer Lopez with an LV bag, you know the auction is a fake.

Does the bag come with tags? If the bag has a tag on it, move on. LV bags do not have tags attached from the manufacture and will only include tags in pockets loosely. If they kept the tags and receipt that is a good sign that they cared for the handbag and that it's authentic.

If you are purchasing the bag from ebay, check the sellers feedback rating. Especially if this is your first purchase on ebay, check feedback. If you are a veteran ebayer and want to take a gamble with a new seller who needs the money, that's your choice. Maybe the gift was from a boyfriend or ex-husband and she wants the bag out of her sight. Your gain. But, be careful. I would only purchase handbags from sellers with 99% or higher feedback. I buy and sell on ebay (not handbags or clothing) and would not purchase with less feedback than 99%. Why? Someone with less feedback either is selling fakes or doesn't care about service and you might get your bag in a few months. Check the feedback comments and see what buyers are saying.

Is the BIN price on ebay for the Speedy 25 $200? This is either stolen or a fake. Buy It Now (BIN) on ebay price for an authentic bag would be $400-600. Again, if the seller has an incorrect listing name or description, you could get a wonderful bargain. But buyer beware! I would still insist on additional pictures and communication with the seller.

Make sure seller has a return policy. You will see auctions that claim the item is 100% authentic but offer no returns. I can understand if the seller is concerned that the buyer may switch the item, but the seller should not accept bids with low feedback or no feedback. If you are going to purchase a return policy, buyer beware. Would you purchase a handbag from www.louisvuitton.com/ or an authorized Louis Vuitton store without a return policy? I wouldn't, why risk it.

If you see a bag on ebay and are 80-90% sure that it's authentic, stop. Take a deep breath and think for a minute. Even if the bag looks authentic and the price is reasonable, just stop. Look at a similar bag from an ebay seller who has hundreds or thousands of transactions. Look at the feedback and careful consider if it's worth 5-10% savings to continue your transaction with the unknown seller. It could be an incredible bargain, but stop and think first. I would rather be 99% sure it's authentic with a full return policy, then save a few dollars.

Ebay can be a fun and exciting experience when a bidding war occurs on an item. Remember rule number 1 above. Find out the details on your LV handbag first. Go to www.louisvuitton.com/ or your local store and find out what the retail value is for the bag. One thing to keep in mind is the bag will fluctuate in price based on the Euro. As the dollar falls the LV handbag price will go up. If you found a bag today but wait a month to purchase, the price will fluctuate. Probably less than $100, but you never know. Again, visit www.louisvuitton.com/ or call your local store for a recent price. Once you have the current price, be sure you don't overbid on your favorite LV bag on ebay. I have sold on ebay for years and have watched buyers overbid on an item that you could purchase at the local store for half the price. Obviously, one of a kind LV items or sold out items are excluded from this example. I don't want to see you spend $800 on a Speedy 25 that retails for $650.

Remember that return policy mentioned above. Now you are going to be glad you found a seller who has one. I have been to Louis Vuitton stores in New York and Palo Alto and they both have the same store policy. The see customers come in everyday with the same request. "Is this a real LV handbag?" Or, even better. "My LV zipper broke and I want it fixed." Many customers are shocked to find out that they have a fake. If you receive your handbag from ebay and are not 100% sure, take the bag to a Louis Vuitton store or boutique and ask. "Is this bag real, or a fake." They look at bags all day long and can tell you quickly. If the bag is a fake, contact your seller and if possible take pictures of an actual bag in the store for ebay and paypal dispute. Don't worry, in some instances, I'm sure the seller may not be aware that the bag is a fake. Again, this will probably happen for those sellers with little or no feedback. Some sellers may have tried to pawn off a fake to a customer, while others may have been unknowing. Buy the added insurance and choose a reputable seller with great feedback. You are going to love your new LV handbag and use it for years to come. When you can use an authentic handbag for decades, why would a few dollars matter? Enjoy your LV.
