My AUTISM Lensography - A collection of my AUTISM Lenses

My AUTISM Lensography is a collection of all my Autism related lenses right here on one lense. Basically, it's a lot of great information all in one place! This lens is a great starting point if you are new to Autism or just want to learn more about Autism.

Autism, Autism Awareness Month, The Ribbon Story, Autism Safety, Basic Facts About Autism, Autism Educational Information and Products, Aspergers, Causes of Autism, Statistics of Autism, Gluten-Free Diets, Cures for Autism, and Jenny McCarthy's Journey with Autism are just some of the topics covered in my lenses.

Did you ever wonder why the Autism Awareness wristband is blue? What the story behind the Ribbon is? What Autism Awareness Month stands for? My lenses answer those questions and more.

About My Autism Lenses

My Autism lenses are some of the first lenses I built on Squidoo. In fact, Autism 101 was the 1st lens I ever built on Squidoo! My reason for joining Squidooo and building lenses was to bring more awareness to Autism (just doing my small part in the world). However, since then I have come to really enjoy writing on Squidoo and have expanded my lenses to several different topics, including weddings, business, shopping, Halloween, animals and more. The lens you are reading right now is my 58th lens!

Since my Autism lenses are some of the first lenses I built, a few of them could use a little TLC. They are great lenses but now that I've build 58 lenses Ive learned some fun things along the way like making this text bold or bold and red...lol. I try to go back whenever I can to make changes, and add new stuff...so be sure to check back often, or favor the lenses you like so can be notified of changes....and all the fun and informative stuff I plan to add. Any new Autism related lense that I build will be added to this lens. So be sure to favor this one too!

The Misunderstood Child Poem

The Misunderstood Child

I am the child that looks healthy and fine.
I was born with ten fingers and toes.
But something is different, somewhere in my mind.
And what it is, nobody knows.

I am the child that struggles in school,
Though they say that I'm perfectly smart.
They tell me I'm lazy - can learn if I try -
But I don't seem to know where to start.

I am the child that won't wear the clothes
Which hurt me or bother my feet.
I dread sudden noises, can't handle most smells,
And tastes - there are few foods I'll eat.

I am the child that can't catch the ball
And runs with an awkward gait.
I am the one chosen last on the team
And I cringe as I stand there and wait.

I am the child with whom no one will play -
The one that gets bullied and teased.
I try to fit in and I want to be liked,
But nothing I do seems to please.

I am the child that tantrums and freaks
Over things that seem petty and trite.
You'll never know how I panic inside,
When I'm lost in my anger and fright.

I am the child that fidgets and squirms
Though I'm told to sit still and be good
Do you think that I choose to be out of control?
Don't you know that I would if I could?

I am the child with the broken heart
Though I act like I don't really care.
Perhaps there's a reason God made me this way -
Some message He sent me to share.

For I am the child that needs to be loved
And accepted and valued too.
I am the child that is misunderstood,
I am different - but look just like you.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) often can be reliably detected by age 3. In some cases even earlier than that. Recent studies suggest that kids may eventually be accurately diagnosed by the age of 1 year or even younger. One thing for certain is that if your child shows any of the early warning signs of autism then they should be evaluated by a professional who specializes in autism disorders. Hi WeddingZazzle,

The poem you included made me cry! My son is autistic but in main stream school and just got suspended today for hitting someone.

I wish people could be more understanding but I guess we fear what we don't understand.

I will try to get a look at more of your lenses, what I've seen so far rock!!

I have worked with Autistic children and one of my children has been educated alongside a severely autistic child. The poem really does a lot to describe what these children feel and go through.

Tee - I have posted a thread in the SquidU Forum as I am going to be doing an article for SquidLog that I think you may be interested in contributing to. Please either post a message on the thread in the Forum or email me through my contact me button if you are happy to answer some questions about Autism and participating in Forums.

Thank you for what you are doing on Squidoo to raise awareness of this very "invisible" condition and SquidAngel Blessings for you.
