- Great Lens, we are raising our two grandsons, one of who is in the Asperger's range. It is a constant struggle and you have to fight hard for their rights. When you start to educate yourself and learn coping skills you find worlds you never would have found. Things like calling a skunk a stunk makes way more sense to me...

- I'm glad folks like you have the nitty-gritty details about Autism and Asperger's on your sites--this makes it easier for me to focus on writing my lens about how I have learned to live a full life with Asperger's (without even knowing I had it until my daughter was diagnosed). I would be overwhelmed if I tried to include all you have here! Now I just have to figure out how to point people from my lens to yours (I am a non-technical-minded AS!).

- My oldest daughter was diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder when she was 17, which explained why she was so darned difficult! I have Aspergers, and my son has a Broad Spectrum Autism disorder, probably Aspergers as well, because he has no real trouble with language, and reads at a 5th grade level, even though he is only 6. Of course, that was probably because of his obsession with billboard and street signs (now he is obsessed with natural disasters). I homeschool him because he started withdrawing when he started Kindergarten, and he is doing very well. I also understand his need for spinning, and if he needs a break to spin in the living room, I let him get it out of his system. I understand him, and it works out well for us! Great site, and how awful to have had to redo it!

- Hey there! Just got on here and very impressive! I was wondering if you have ever read any of Donna Williams books on autism? I have most of them and it has helped a lot with my granddaughter, 9 yrs and on the spectrum with ODD, childhood depression, epilipsy, you know! She is also an autie, not diagnosed till she was in her mid 20's. I think it would be worth your time to check her out. You can go to her site, http://blog.donnawilliams.net, to see her art work and other info. Keep up the good work and good luck getting your lens back together!

- I know how frustrating it must feel to have deleted all that work on your lens, but you have,, in the interim provided some excellent information to help us be aware of the challenge autistic children and their caregivers are engaged in. I have a friend and associate who is a single mom with an autistic son. Will send this to her stars, fanned and favorite

- As a mother of a son who has special needs (hearing impairment, dyslexia, ODD, Sensory Touch Disorder), I know all about living in a home that is chaotic and challenging...all the time. Your upbeat attitude serves you so well, and is a great choice for how to move forward every day.
What do you think of Jenny McCarthy's books?

- Thank you, Chris! I really appreciate it. I almost cried! There's a lot of great info. here. Thanks for sharing your story as well. It's amazing how little knowledge pedi's have and how much a determined parent can acquire. Hugs to Liam and Jack!

- Dear Chris, is really strange the life! I've found You among my fans with a beautiful atavar, ladybug. This beautiful little animal has a special meaning for me. I've visited Your bios, and You have two splendid boys with the same problem of my cousin Giacomo, 27 years old, that lives and works in NYC. Yes, he works! Giacomo is a nice guy who speaks normally, plays, participates in the daily life, but sometimes... hangs and lives on in his world. Now he live in a specialized establishment of Long Island and he goes to work every day and in good health. I talked to him many times and it is extraordinary, unfortunately I live in Italy and we do not see often.
The ladybug, Giacomo (Jack)... The other extraordinary fact is the symbol used to identify autism: the jigsaw puzzle! It is the logo of my enterprise!
A big big hug to You, Liam, Jack and a "great guy".
Kiss, Giacomo

- Hi Deb, thanks so much for taking the time to come by and read my story. I appreciate your kind words. Some days I don't feel like I'm always doing a great job with the boys because I have to do a lot of "from the hip" parenting. Just when I think I have a handle on the boys and their needs, something will change and I have to figure out a new approach to the issue or keep working with the experts for help. I make a lot of mistakes, and I just keep praying for wisdom from God on how to handle each difficult situation.
Anyway, It's so nice to hear a word of encouragement so thanks.
I think when I'm feel like I need a pick me up, I'm going to head over to your virtual garden and enjoy your flowers! I love to garden when I have the chance, it's very therapeutic. Thanks again for stopping by! Chris :)

- Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and leave a message! I appreciate your nice words and support.
I was really moved by your Lens on Cat Abuse. It was hard to see those pictures because we love our Cats so much! Liam has an incredible bond with his cats, he is able to show affection more easily for the cats than family members. Children like Liam are at high risk for abusing animals because they cannot understand empathy innately, and they might abuse an animal with displaced anger and not understand the pain they are inflicting on it. They need to be taught how to treat and be kind to animals. I know that Liam would go after anyone who tried to hurt his cats even before someone who tried to hurt his little brother. LOL
Thanks again for stopping by!

- Hi Karen: Thanks so much for your kind words about my Lens. I actually intend to recreate my section I had in my first Lens on Autism Service Dogs and Autism Sensory Dogs. I had a lot of info put together I just need to look it up again and get It back on the Lens. I think I also may use you idea and create a separate lens on animals and Autism. We have also found that my oldest Liam with Aspergers has an incredible connection with Cats. We have 3 adopted kittens now for about 6 monthns. We have entered two of the kitty's in the Cat Fanciers' Household Cat Division a the local Cat Show, and Liam's cat's took home 3 ribbons! He was so proud! He adores these Cats and hugs and loves on them all the time. The Cats even sleep with him allowing him to hug them like a teddy bear! It's so sweet, I need to take a pic. It's incredible to see him connect emotionally in ways I have never seen before.
Thanks again for stopping by, Chris

- An easy 5 stars !
You have told this story beautifully, to make all the UPS and DOWNS and challenges very real ~~ super write up.
I would love you to make a lens on how Animals (dogs, birds, other animals) have had a powerful and remarkable effect of children with autism.
Best to you,
Karen
