Overview of the Garmin GNS 430 GPS
The Garmin 430, introduced in 1997, has quickly become the most popular GPS receiver for pilots in general aviation. WAAS capability was added to it in 2006. All models are software upgradeable for WAAS. The Garmin 400-series includes the GPS 400, GNC 420, and GNS 430. All use standardized functions - if you learn one, you can easily operate any of them. Plus, the larger Garmin 530 uses the same button standards.
Controls
What does what in the GNS 430

Concentric knobs on the bottom left control the tuning of the radio frequencies. Since one set of knobs controls both radios, the smaller knob is pushed to specify which radio is being dialed.
Concentric knogs on the right control the GPS functions. Although they have a variety of functions, they are frequenly used to move the cursor on the screen and to select options. The larger knob moves the cursor while the smaller knob selects options.
Screen Layouts
You can instantly return to the default page (NAV/1) by pressing and holding the CLR button for two seconds. This can be an important "panic button" when you find yourself lost in the hierarchy.

This is the NAV/2 page. It is the second page in the NAV chapter, indicated by the white square in the screen's bottom right.
