How do Avocados lower high blood pressure?

Avocados contain a monounsaturated fat that is called oleic acid. It has been well documented that oleic acid assists in lowering cholesterol. In a study where participants had daily diet that included Avocados, the participants showed a lowering of LDL (bad cholesterol) by 10% and a 11% rise in HDL (good cholesterol) and that was for only one weeks time! They are also absolutely chock full of potassium. Potassium is known to be one of the key ingredients in lowering blood pressure and keeping a healthy circulatory system. If that were not enough, avocados have a large amount of Folates, a nutrient that increases heart health and assists in decreasing blood pressure naturally

Great lens! Another way to have avacado is to put it in a smoothie. I have 1 avacado, 1 beet, 1/2 orange, 1 apple, and 1 lemon- in the vitamix, with 2c distilled water. Believe it or not, it is ok tasting! Also, if you hit the avacado seed with a hammer to break it up, it can also go in the smoothie- the vitamix will not blend it, though, unless you break it up a little first. The seed is amazingly beneficial!

At least once in a week I make myself an avocado cream spread with few drops of lemon and some spices. It's great for a breakfast, maybe you should try it?
Otherwise I like your lens very much and it deserves a big Squidlike from me ;)

My "honey" is Mexican and let me tell ya, the way they use avocado is so much better than the crap avocado I used to serve back in my days of waitressing. He uses the avocado as a salsa for his tortilla chips (as well as for all of the other Southwestern dishes you mentioned). Simply mix the avocado with tomato, jalapeno peppers, salt, lemon pepper, onion, and garlic (or whatever spices you prefer). The added ingredients will take that avocado flavor from bland to "happening" in a moment flat. Also, remember, a ripe avocado's SKIN is a darker green/blackish color, NOT the brighter green color. It should not be too firm when you squeeze it, but rather somewhat soft (but not TOO soft or TOO black -- then it will be overly ripe). Happy tasting, Squidoos!!!
